Retaking the SATs/ACTS? and other questions

If I want to transfer to say, Sarah Lawrence or Columbia (reach), how much of a difference would it make if I retook the SATs/ACTs and got much better scores? Initially I received a 1760 SAT score and a 27 ACT score (ouch, I know). I know I could raise them up to at least a 2000 and a 32, respectively, but would colleges even care?

My other question...I have a very weird situation...I took two years off after high school, then started one semester of colllege last fall, but had to take this past semester off due to financial technicalities (I owed the school a couple grand without knowing it, they had dropped me from my courses, I kept on going to my classes, and then found out I had been dropped after the census date and couldn't re-enroll). Will this inconsistency hurt me?

Bump i’d like to know about retaking the SAT as well, so i’m bumping the thread up!

Some schools will probably care more than others, but it won’t hurt you to retake them again anyway.

As for the inconsistency? Eh, no, I wouldn’t worry about it. Clearly the whole financial thing was a mistake, which I’m sure they’ll understand.
