Retention Rates

I was wondering what the retention rates for bschools are. i.e., how many of the kids accepted to each school actually attend. is it higher for other grades?

@sabretoothtt: That statistic is called the “yield”. Retention is how many kids stay in school once they matriculate…meaning don’t fail out, get kicked out for discipline issues, transfer, or have to withdraw for any number of reasons.

And about “yield”…I seem to recall that some of the most selective schools see as high as 80%.

What I think would be an interesting thing to know is to which schools do “the Big 2” (Andover/Exeter) lose the most admitted students?

For the past couple of years, Andover tops the list at 78%, followed by SPS then Deerfield(?).

Totally unscientific, SevenDad, but from hanging around these boards and talking to bs parents, my sense is that A and E mostly lose students to each other, to SPS, and and to Deerfield. And perhaps to good day schools? We don’t hear as much from those parents.

I recall ThacherParent stating that Thacher’s yield was up there as well…as an outlier, I wonder what Le Rosey’s is?

I remember getting a tiny little cardboard booklet with a magnet in it and stats about the school from Hotchkiss saying that ~360 people were accepted but a ~188 accepted, that’s only about 52%.

Retention rate is the percentage of current students returning for the following year at the same school. Yield refers to the number of accepted students that matriculate at the school. I think both numbers are important.
