rethinking applying to many UCs, should I still try?

I started of this semester with a plan and was confident I would get into most UCs but thats changed. I am a history major and still currently have a 3.83 GPA, but this semester I was supposed to complete a pre rec math course for STATS. I ended up pretty much failing it and dropped it. I found the same math course at another ccc as an 8 week course and decided to drop a history course that I didn't really need(only for CAL) in order to take this new math course. Since the times clashed. The 8 week course ended up getting canceled. Thats were I lost all hope of transferring for Fall 2014.

Until a professor recommend trying to get the math class during winter, and I was able to get one! So I can still take Stats as planned in the spring(which rules out UCSB, I talked to a rep and he flat out said they will NOT accept me unless STATS and english is completed by fall). Anyway I know have a total of 3 Ws…2 from the same math class Ive been writing about and 1 from this History class I had to drop.

I know its not that many but I know that the Fall before transfer is what schools look at and Ive had a really bad semester, I mean I technically dropped 2 classes. I think this pretty much killed my chances of getting into UCs now. Idk if I should even still apply for UCLA? I was thinking of applying only to UCR UCI and CSU now. Or waiting till next year to apply and TAG with a UC.

Well, I think you should apply to all the UC’s you’d like to attend if you can afford to do so. Take the Intermediate Algebra during the W and Stats in the S. Go to tutoring if you need extra help. Take that History class you dropped in the Spring so you can apply to Berkeley if you want to. Finish strong this semester and you will get into some UC’s.

Is it optimal that you have to take the remedial math class during the Winter and Stats in the Spring? No. I don’t think it’ll be as big a deal as you’re making it out to be though. If they like your application, they’ll simply put in the stipulations that you must pass Stats by Spring and have 60 units.

Worst case scenario, you aren’t happy with the results this upcoming April and you apply again. IMO, you’ll be kicking yourself in the foot if you don’t try your best to finish everything up by this Spring.
