on the fafsa, it says in the investment question to include all stocks, bonds, etc. in the amount, yet it says not to include retirement plans. my dad has a "retirement savings statement" sheet that includes stocks and bonds from the company that he works in. should it count or not?

Not. Don't try to interpret the question of governmental forms. Do as they ask. "do not include retirement plans." = "retirement savings" or any other program with "retirement"

neone else?

you got the correct answer.....

The annual contribution (i.e. the amount paid into retirement accounts in 2005) is included on the FAFSA form. The accumulated value of the accounts, however, is not. If your parents contribute to a 401K, 403, or IRA accounts through their work, this is included on their W-2 form. These must be reported. However if they have $200000 in retirement account VALUE, this is NOT listed as an asset on the FAFSA. I will say that some colleges require the disclosure of retirement account value as a supplemental question on the Profile, but the FAFSA does NOT.

ok thanks. it just lowered my efc 2000 dollars.
