Returned from Transfer Orientation, ask me any Q's.

Sooo I just got back from orienatition and getting my gator one card, registering for classes, advising etc, def not as long as the university level freshman orientation, its only for like 7 hours.

If you guys have any Q's about what went on at orientation ask away.

how did you receive a decision so early?

I applied for summer A/C.

you are CALS right?

by any chance was changing major brought up at any time? (not enough information is out there concerning changing major after transferring)

Im in CLAS, the lady said absolutely no major change is allowed. And it seems out of the 50 kids attending only about 5 were university transfers.

hmmm 5 out of 50 = 10%… seems right.

yea, i ask because i am in a sort of a bind, having doubts about the major I have been admitted to.

holy crap…only 5 accepted from a Univ.? Are you serious?
I’m screwed…

How was the advising? Did you meet individually with someone from your college or major, or was it a general group info session?

Any word on what course availability looks like at this point in the semester? Were lots of them full?

Also - how long did it take you to receive the official letter of acceptance in the mail along with orientation brochure? I was accepted on Wednesday and am wondering about when I should expect mail.

Thanks a bunch! And Go Gators!

They put a hold for classes for the transfer students, they reserve classes for you. Note I am biology and pre-dent and this flamboyant asian guy named Kwon was my adviser, uhhh he was so ruthless to the CC AA kids who were attending the pre-health session essentially saying you guys already lost half to battle coming from a CC etc, and how UF teachers are so unbearably hard and how they’ll get eaten alive as a premed and lots of kids came from Miami Dade College, and one girl was like ‘I took half my science classes at MDC’ and he was like ‘Ummm like sorry but MDC is not even a real school and I advise you retake all your classes because your in for a rude awakening here’ he went on and on but I felt like I had to share that, that is the only thing that turned me off from orientation was this guy who essentially said everyone was going to fail. There was first a group session then personal advising session.

When all of the CLAS kids were in the Reitz auditorium about 30% of the room was full and the CLAS lady was like yea as you can see this room is empty, normally in the past years this entire room was filled with transfer students, not this year, they also apologized about sending late decision but they blamed it on the board of governors.

And apparently a CLAS lady named Alicia was in attendance who reads this forum and she mentioned college confidential and how also thanked us for our patience.

Yankeeboy, it would be interesting to see what all of the transfer students here think of the UF courses once u guys get there…or are there any current UF students around here that transferred in that can tell us how CC classes compare to UF? I am currently in grad school at UF, don’t find the courses harder than at previous schools, but then I have always worked hard…i

my sister attend UF all 4 years, and SIMILARLY to a lot of UF students she says the classes are VERY hard, I always say to her when she mentions this…“you’ve never even attended another university”

i would be interested to hear what a transfer student thinks of difficulty as well (specifically a science major)

I know personally that mac1147 is more hard/comprehensive at UCF than at UF. I am a math tutor in the mathlab at UCF and my gf is currently taking mac1147 at UF, and I’ve seen all 4 of her tests to compare them to the tests here at UCF. Now as far as how the kids are doing in the class-- I cant make a comparison

its all hype i guess

Some classes are tough, and others are easy. But I heard that UF now has minuses (so that sucks for you all).

If you are having trouble then try to purchase the Student Notes (Einstein Notes if it is still around).

yeah, minus grades do suck.

but it’s up to the prof. whether he/she uses them.
