Returning From Winter Break

Quick Question: Spring semester classes begin on Tuesday, January 18. Do most students return to campus a few days earlier (Saturday or Sunday), or just the day before?

Varies, most people (that aren’t in sororoties since they go back a week earlier for rush) probably go back on sunday/monday. Doesn’t really make a difference…I’ve had years where I returned the night before, and other days where I’ve returned a couple days before, usually depending on things like price of airfare, etc.

As marc mentioned, the girls doing formal rush (and those already in a sorority) will be on campus at least a week early.

Myself, I’ll be flying back on Jan. 16th this year. I like to have a little bit of time to settle in.

When’s the formal rush for fraternities?

The dorms are closed for winter break. They will reopen Jan 14, so you can return any time after that, but most people will return the day before classes.

For fraternities, formal rush is far different than it is for sororities. It also doesn’t start until classes start in the spring.

As a girl, you’d rush every sorority, and it’s very cohesive.
As a guy, you pick which fraternities you want to rush, and it’s not cohesive.

(By cohesive, I mean the sororities team up and work together. The fraternities all sort of do their own thing).
