What is the financial aid process for returning students? Will we need to do the CSS/Profile each year or just FAFSA or ? Generally when are the forms due?

Thanks.

We’ve had good experiences with FA for my son’s returning years. Yes, you still need to complete the CSS profile. The deadline for everything is later. I want to say March, but it might actually be later than that and I just used March to make sure I had everything in with plenty of time. On another note, you won’t find out exactly what your FA package is until late June. For us, our finances remained about the same and FA remained at the same level going up slightly for tuition increases.

Returning students always have to file financial info to Rice by April 15. They are actually pretty good about it; we were ~10 days late one year and it wasn’t a big deal. You are notified by email by June 15 at the latest.

The biggest hastle is always mailing in the stuff to CSS/Profile, although it often takes me a while to find the correct web page to decline the insurance coverage (D uses our policy).

We’ve now finished: D is a senior this year! We’ve never been surprised by the FA award. It has slowly crept up each year reflecting the increased Rice costs (and pretty much static wages).

Will Rice notify all FA recipients of the expected process/deadlines or is it up to us to check out the website (Esther or ?)? If the package isn’t quite what you wanted/expected/needed… is there any negotiation?

Thanks.

Our FA was less this year and we were able to negotiate more grant money from Rice. We just had to write a letter to FA explaining why we needed more money.

good to know.

thanks.
