returning students: when are you supposed to apply for financial aid?

and when does LU start looking at FA for 2009-10 ? Again, my question is for returning students (soph).

Most undergrads have been sent info from their FA offices explaining the FA renew process. Most colleges prefer that the FAFSA and Profile, if applicable, be done with final tax returns. Check your college web site. (Incoming freshman apply ASAP with estimates.)

It is all explained in detail there.

My daughter is a Sophomore at LU, and all I remember doing last year was filling out the FAFSA as soon as possible. It is more to continue existing aid. Her EFC was subsantially unchanged, so everything continued.

I just filed the FAFSA since my son will be in college in the fall, and some of the schools had Feb 1 deadlines. Since I was filling it out for the Son, I filled it out for the Daughter too. EFC for Daughter dropped in half, althought the combination between the 2 kids is the same as last year. When I finally do my taxes in Feb or March, I will update the FAFSA.

Can't hurt to file an estimated FAFSA now, and finalize it by April. The deadline for returning students to file the FAFSA is April 1. I have no idea when they start looking at it for returning studends. If your EFC doesn't change much, then expect the same as last year. If it has changed a lot, after you file the FAFSA, give the Financial Aid office a call.

thanks to both of you.
