I am a 22 year old who will be returning to college (local cc) this fall after spending 3 years in a seminary (unaccredited). I graduated HS in 2007 and did 1 year of college, taking basic prerequisites for business school. Now, I would like to major in engineering (if I can hack it).

My question is: what classes should I take in my first quarter back? I am reviewing/studying my math in order to test into Calc I, but other than that, I am not sure what I should be taking. I would like to transfer to the University of Washington, but all of their prerequisites hinge on my getting into and passing Calc I, and would begin in the second quarter (Physics, etc..).

Also, what other steps should I take to prepare to transfer (hopefully for fall 2012)?

According to the website, if you haven’t met certain requirements prior to the enrollment of UW (to engineering program), once you are accepted you are consdiered pre-engineering major.

It is very likely that you will start over as a freshman in CC, so your best bet is to follow the UW recommendations. Read those.

Why won’t my previous credits transfer? That would really be a pain if my previous college experience didn’t count for anything AND prevented me from applying as a freshman (which is what I assumed it did).

If you took “calculus for business majors”, then it may not be accepted in place of “calculus for math, physics, and engineering majors”. However, some of the courses you may have taken for a business major (e.g. economics, English composition) may fulfill breadth requirements for engineering majors.

PossibleYou went to college for a year then left? That was at 3 years ago right? I don’t know if CC will accept it or not. You have to find out, but business calculus won’t transfer, which you are aware of.

Do yourself a favor, call CC tomorrow or on Monday to find out whether previous credits will be transferred or not (most likely your general ed requirements)
