Lots of cadets returning today and tomorrow to New London. The weeks went by fast and we will miss our kids as they mae their way back for the second semester.
A big storm is predicted for Connecticut starting tonight into tomorrow. Hopefully it won't cause any problems for the travelers. Everyone be safe and well!

Nooooooooooooo! I'm not sending my Plebe back. :( Don't make me!! He keeps me SO entertained. Ya know, calling me every ten minutes, "Mom, I didn't look at my gas gauge and I just bought dinner for my girlfriend. Can you load my card with a few bucks?" And all those dirty clothes that don't make it to the hamper. The endless stream of friends running in & out creating wreck & ruin all over my house. "I'm hungry!" And why oh why is my phone ringing at 3 am in the morning!? "Don't feed the dogs a 1/2 can of pringles!!" I ask him if he was doing a re-enactment of Hansel & Gretel when I saw a trail of popcorn going from his bedroom to the upstairs. Its ok though because the dogs ate that too.

I understand that when I go home in a few minutes, there are computers & networking cables strung from one end of the living room to the other for 6 boys who are gaming. Maybe I should just stay at work..... You bet I'm gonna miss that little darling! Two more days!! :D

PLEASE everyone travel safely!!

Isn't it amazing how they stay our kids! I send my oldest back to school on the 14th--we'll miss her so much. So, enjoy that popcorn all over and those cables and take lots of pics! Our hired man KPer heads back tomorrow.

Forgot to mention we picked up(from the airport and railroad station) two out of town cadets to add to the menagerie...one from Utah and one from Kansas...they're spending their "last night" with us. It's fun to meet and get to know kids from other parts of the country. We live about an hour from the academy so our place is kind of a home away from home for a lot of them. The stuff about the computers made me laugh. We have three coast guard lap tops scattered about the house with various hook ups for music and various humorous videos from the net.

Boss, I wish I were you cause you have access to the strays. I want some. Bet you now know what life is like as a taxi cab driver. I stepped over cables, computers and kids when I got home. You'd have been proud of me. Not one word of complaint passed these lips. Jamz loved having access to the outside internet to game. It was good to see them having fun all together. Jamz tells me a lady from the Coast Guard told him that he could internship with them in NY this spring. I guess they work the schedules out as he will be going to sea in July? He is excited about it. When he saw the news yesterday of the rescues in NY he was doing that beeming with pride thing. He said, "If I learn well enough, that could very well be me someday, organizing a rescue that saves lives." Every now & again, he says something that makes me stop to ponder how we ended up with him. Having two kids that want to save lives is amazing to me. The other being in fire protection with his Dad. Excuse me! Make room! My head is swelled really big & I can't seem to fit it through the log off door in this forum..... I know you know what I mean because you have one too. And Heartcross, you just wait friend. You won't be able to contain that big ol heart when your dd ends up doing incredible things with her life. She'll do just fine with having you there beside her. My Plebe goes back tomorrow so I'm gonna go try not to get caught watching him sleep for a while.

At West Point it is referred to as the "Gray Period". The start of my sons second semester at WP was the toughest. The weather is gray, the uniforms are gray the buildings are gray. After a 2 week plus vaction this is a hard time for our sons and daughters. I am sure it effects all the academies about the same. And this dreary period is not reserved for the plebes. It effects all classes. Over the next few weeks that extra package or phone call will be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a good time to send some brownies! (something to munch while watching the icebreakers go up river!)

At CGA they call it the "Dark Ages." Same idea...

Boss? Where have you been! Our buddies have gone back now so I know you have time so you c'mon and think up some good war movies to post on the parents forum with me. Are you sitting up there, in the cold, hoarding cheesecake and not telling me? I smell a rat.....

I've been watching "MY" Texas Longhorns whoop up on USC...ha ha...anyway I already posted my movies...pay attention...and I just made a second post of ones I forgot.
We go the big three back to New London last night despite a 9-inch snow storm...fortunately it stopped about 5 or so. A note from the listserv indicated at least 9 kids weren't gonna make it back in time for the 2200 report-in. I imagine they gave them a pasadena.
Now the fun begins in the second term...supposedly they were gonna hear something today about their summer training...no call yet.
It's quiet around here that's for sure.

Yep. I could hear a pin drop. Which means I WILL get to sleep a full night without a kid jumping on my bed in the am hours to say hi mom. I wish USMMA had a listserve. I really think our kids are at Sean Connery 007 school as no information can be shared. Can't believe you got snow again. Did the last of it ever melt before this new batch hit?

I "hear" you. It's quiet. No "Dropkick Murphys" played at full blast...

Anyway, the last snow was just about melted off then we had three inches on New Year's Eve and then this 9 on top...the joys of living in Connecticut!

We're lucky with the listserv as it provides us with a lot of "inside" info...the Chief at the Academy who does all the admin stuff is on there a lot with info the parents need. Sometimes we hear about things before the Kay-dets(as ds refers to them!)
