<p>Are REUs obligated to notify you of their decision to accept you or not?</p>
<p>Don’t know if they are obligated or not. Probably not, since an application for a position does not imply a contract, as a lawyer might say.</p>
<p>Last year not every REU school followed up Lake Jr.'s application with an answer. Yes, that’s absolutely atrocious behavior. Last year one REU Coordinator complained to Lake Jr. about the how hard it was to process and keep up with the large number of applications. His whining only added to my loss of regard for that university. Deadlines have already passed at most of the REU programs Lake Jr. has applied to for summer 2014. No word yet.</p>
