Probably a dumb question, but can I use the same essay, tweaked a little bit that I submitted in my application for a scholarship essay at that same school?? Or is this a bad idea?? Like say I applied at UCLA and I reuse my essay for prompt #2, just tweaked a little bit if i was applying for the regents scholarship, or the chancellors at berkeley. will they be looking at both together?? thanks in advance...

In my personal opinion, that is PERFECTLY OK. You’re not plagiarizing someone else’s work or anything. After all your narrating your own story again.

However, I strongly suggest that while tweaking, you look VERY closely at the new context in which you’re saying things (that is, make sure what you’re saying is relevant to the new topic.). The reason I say this is, sometimes there can be very subtle differences in the prompts. This has happened to me in the past when I was trying to recycle an essay for a local CCC scholarship, which needed a slightly different emphasis.

Also, make sure you’re not totally contradicting what you said in your original essay, because they have access to that one and might very well compare the two.

You can recycle your essay, why not? But as victor said, tweak the essay to reflect the new prompt and adhere to the questions they’re asking. But I’m sure you’re already working on that. Good luck!
