Would a college admissions committee know if I reused essays from when I applied for freshman admission? The colleges involved in the issue include some institutions I got into and some I was rejected from. If I reuse the essays I had written at that time ( and revise them slightly) will the admissions committee count this against me? Is this a bad idea?

Is anybody familiar with Penn willing to read through my "Page 217" essay from the Penn supplement?

I would suggest writing new ones. And Viola, I'll read your 217 essay if you want.

In general, it is not a good idea. Although I wouldn't totally rule it out, I think it is wise to assume that you have new insights and new experiences to use. In the case of those where you were accepted, slight revisions might be fine. Very possibly, they will not even realize you used these essays before - some schools pull the file of your old app for scores etc., but I don't know that they would bother to look at old essays.

For schools where you were rejected, definitely do not use them again. No way of knowing if the essays were a positive or negative factor in your freshman app, but since you didn't get in, I would be wanting to improve every possible aspect of the app.

it would probably be frowned upon, plus you should take every opportunity that you can to improve your application from when you applied to freshman admissions

Thank you for the advice. I talked to an adviser at my cc ( and everyone said she was the best); she told me I should definitely re-use essays. I am glad you guy told me otherwise, because it really does not make sense now that I think about it.

Violaghost, i will read your essay and give you some feedback if you want

I'll read your essay and share any feedback, as well. Just PM it to me.
