So the long essays for Stanford are pretty unique...will it be a bad idea to reuse my picture essay as an additional essay for harvard or yale?

Why would it be a bad idea?

If it's a good essay, there is no reason not to reuse it.

Well, I thought that other schools would know that I'm re-using my Stanford essay and it would look bad to be double-dipping. Or do you think that they won't even care, as long as it's a good essay?

All those schools pretty much asume that you'll be applying to all of them. It won't hurt their feelings...

Those schools use common application to make the "double dipping" easier for you. If the essay is good, you can use it, they won't care.

But the commonapp essay should be 500 and your Stanford one is likely to be longer. I posted a thread on how long the commonapp essay should be and everyone said it shouldn't go over 500 words. You'll have to do some trimming if you want to reuse it. On the other hand, is 500 words enough for the Stanford long essay?

i think a bit over 500 words (like 530) is perfectly fine for the commonapp essay. a lot of people, including my counselor, say it's ok to go over 10%.

dont worry about reusing
