Revealing Question. Help.

I am doing an application right now- one of the 250 word limits is "What would you like us to know about you that may not be revealed in your teacher or counselor recommendations?"

I attend a school where over 40% of the student's parents are in the military, and 30% of that number is deployed in the war. Our school is very diverse because of the military, do you think that is an insight? If I explain how diversity has shaped my views and the like is it alright? My parents are both teachers in my school disctrict, and i have gone to school here since pre-school.

Or, I could talk about this one time I took a homeless guy out to lunch and sat with him talking for like two hours.

Any opinions?

please? anyone?

I kind of like the homeless man lunch thing, because it shows compassion. I mean no offense, and God bless all whom are in the military/parents of children at your school, but the diversity thing seems kind of common. Unless you have some sort of fantastic view or tolerance that you developed.

But the homeless man lunch is more interesting. In my humble opinion.

no, thanks man that really helps out a lot. my whole application is centered around giving and stuff. my common app essay is about a walk i planned for my friend who died of cancer. it raised like $10,000... think it will add another dimension to my personality?

anyone else?

This isn't a chatroom. You have to be patient with responses. If someone hasn't responded in a few days, then ask "Anyone else?"

Anyway, I'm with embroglio with the homeless man thing. Most kids (including myself) don't have the guts/desire to something like that, so it does add an interesting dimension to you. I also think cohesion is a good thing, so a theme of "giving" really will give the admissions people a good idea of who you are, instead of just disjointed flashes of what you've done. The fact that you raised $10,000 dollars is major also. Anyway, you seem like you're on the right track. Good luck.

sorry, we're leaving for the holidays and i needed to get this one done. i really appreciate the advice though!
