Hi, I just got accepted to UCSD to Revelle College. I was wondering about how the social life is at revelle college. Furthermore, how are the dorms and food at revelle? I am majoring in Pre-Bioengineering:Pre-Medical, how is UCSD's program in that field? Is the social life in UCSD overall good, or does it not compare with other UC's? From some websites that I read, i heard it is the socially-dead of all the UC's. Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate it!

i entered revelle with your major (minus the pre- part, i was straight BE:PM). we're a good school in terms of academics. the social life is variable but it's what you choose to make of it. dorms are sturdy, liveable, and plaza cafe (our dining hall) is right there (but your meal points work all over campus).

there are LOTS of other forums dealing with social life , housing, revelle, etc. give those a read and if you have other questions, feel free to PM me :) welcome!

thx a lot. for sure ill get back to you once i do more research.

hey we're in the same boat (I'm a Pre-Bioengineering major accepted to Revelle)!
Congrats, man. I'm sure UCSD will be a kick-ass college! That's why I'm like 90% sure I'll go there next year (that is if I get rejected from LA or Berkeley (which I kinda doubt))! Again, congrats on getting into a top college!

Hi. I got accepted to Revelle too. Computer Engineering major ..

My only source of information about the colleges was the UCSD website .. Anyone care to tell me a bit more about the place?

got into revelle too!! i really regret choosing it as first choice instead of marshall. i haerd the dorms were crappiest and all the people do is study. damn. is this true? i hope not

NO WAY! this sucks so much. yeah i need more information about revelle, congrats to all u who got in! hopefully revelle will be good? anyone with more info?

revelle is fine. your college does NOT define what kind of college student you'll be. i hated studying (and still do), pulling less than twenty library visits during my five years at UCSD. i liked its location and the dorms (they're sturdy and close to the cliffs) and has decent student parking if you're inclined to bring your car. hum is annoying, but it's easy to fulfill that at a JC (and most students do). if you're a chem/bio major and ever do on-campus research in those departments, you'll be in that neck of the woods anyway.

what about the girls at revelle? and are the dorms old and food sucky...

is it supercompetative, especially for Pre-Bioengineering:Pre-Medical. i mean i hate studying but realize i have to. hopefully there arent only 'nerds' that go to revelle, as the stereotype is.

anyone have pics of revelle dorms? comment at life @ revelle?

anyone have pics of revelle dorms? comment at life @ revelle?

I'm currently housed at Revelle as a freshman...Revelle's dorms aren't pretty but they're spacious and livable. If it means anything to you, it also probably gives the best "college feel." As for the setup, it's perfect since the dorms are arranged as suites with three rooms (6-9 people total) sharing a common area. I'm at Argo Hall, which has six floors and ~50 people per floor. Also, my friends from the other colleges tell me that we get the most free *good food. As for the dorm life, Revelle easily has its share of smart "nerdy" people, but not everyone studies. I'm actually bit surprised by the "socially-dead" comments, because it isn't as socially dead as people claim it to be. Actually, the cross suite from mine hosts too many beer pong parties, none of which I actually get involved in=]

As for the food, I no longer crave homemade food. Compared to the other colleges, except for Muir and Marshall's, Revelle has good food.

And for you late-nighters, a study library is less than a minute-walk from the dorms. It has 50+ comps and dozens of study tables.

In the end, Revelle students win=]

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

^A video of some random fools in an argo room; looks like a triple.

i posted some UCSD-related pictures yesterday, including some shots of revelle dorms in blake/argo hall

lol those videos look so confusing i can hardly follow it. the pictures look great and excite me about ucsd. hopefully revelle will be fun with great ppl. its just that the things ppl say about revelle scare me away. i want a good fun college experience. if revelle wont give me that ill have to look for other schools, but hopefully it will, ill continue doing research

i'll note that apart from GEs and housing location, there is NOTHING else keeping you tied down to your college. you're free to hang out with whoever you meet on campus, eat in their dining halls, use their common/laundry/piano practice rooms, etc. i hung out with my high school friends a lot during my freshman year, and spent a lot of time over at warren and marshall.

revelle did seem a little "scary" in terms of its GEs, but if you erase hum (which i did), life is much happier! my AP lit class got me out of 2/3 area of focus classes, my APfrench score of a measly 3 got me out of 3 quarters of foreign language ... fulfilling the GEs wasn't hard at all. and i took a number of them P/NP since a) i could, b) i knew i wasn't interested enough to put in max effort and c) i had more time for other things i liked.

how are the athletic facilities, well the gym basically at revelle. i like to work out and was wondering if the gym is modern/up to date

revelle doesn't have their own gym (none of the colleges do). you're probably referring to main gym, located between revelle and muir colleges. it's smaller than RIMAC but both are adequately stocked with new equipment. main gym also has an attached pool. RIMAC is a bigger and newer facility; there's a stand-alone pool (Canyonview) between Warren and Pepper Canyon.

That's probably confusing you, so check out recreation.ucsd.edu. I'd bookmark that page, UCSD offers a ton of really cheap rec classes for stuff ranging from surfing to tennis to ballet.

...and just because I can make the comparison: UCSD's gym FAR surpasses the quality of the gyms at Columbia. sure we're ivy league, but there's limited equipment and you have to sign up in advance for the things you're going to use. at least at UCSD you can just walk into the gym and hop on whatever machine is free. plus, you can exercise outside anytime! can't say that for new york for 4 months of the year.

awesome. so revelee and ucsd r lookn good

I got into Revelle, and now I'm hella ****ed because I just found out about the ridiculous list of GE requirements.

luckily im premed so the ge's are the same as med requirements (right??)

hopefully the ppl will be social and fun. i want to party and have a good time despite revelle being hard
