Revelle Housing?

So I am considering going to UC San Diego next year and I would be in Revelle college. I was wondering if any Revelle students who have been there since the renovations could help explain the differences were between the Fleets and Argo/Blake residential halls (atmosphere, layout, size, housekeeping, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated :slight_smile:

Argo and Blake are pretty much on par with Muir and ERC res halls now. Argo has a beautiful lounge on every floor with a full kitchen, and Blake has a massive lounge on the top floor. They’re mostly triple rooms, but they’re relatively spacious (compared to the Fleet). Two suites share one large bathroom; because of this, the suite areas too small for anything much other than chilling, and are cleaned by custodial staff (NOT housekeeping services) every day or so. Argo is considered the place to be just because of how many people live there.

The six Fleets are passable; I live in Atlantis Hall, which isn’t bad by any means, just not as nice as the two larger buildings. There are no elevators meaning that moving in sucks, but the first floor lounges are larger than those in Blargo (no kitchen though, you have to use the Blake ones). The suite areas are also way larger (basically a living/dining room) and are pretty conducive to hosting kickbacks and even parties, but the rooms are significantly narrower (not quite uncomfortable, but average/below average for campus). The bathrooms are a little nicer (towel heating racks and full-size stall doors are the main selling points). The suites and bathrooms are also cleaned by the janitors daily. As a whole, though, the Fleets are less social than Argo is, partly because around half of the students in the Fleets are overflowed from other colleges. The closest water bottle stations are also over in Argo and Blake, which is a pain.

Let me know if you have any other questions about life in Revelle or at UCSD!

@groverrohan thank you so much!!

@groverrohan Could you tell me what kind of cooking equipment the kitchens at Argo have? Our son wants to be able to cook some simple things like omelettes and would like to figure out what supplies he should buy and keep in his room. Do the kitchens supply any of the following: pans, spatulas, cooking spoons, sharp knives, cutting boards, cookie sheets, plates/utensils, salt/pepper?

Do the students end up using the dorm kitchens much?

@SunnyByTheBay I don’t recall exactly, but I’m pretty sure the first five items + plates/utensils are there. I wouldn’t buy any materials until he gets there and checks them out himself; any extra stuff that he needs can be bought from the market or cheaply at Ralph’s (I presume he’ll need to pick up ingredients anyway). Since I didn’t actually live in Argo I don’t know how often people used the kitchens, but I figure each one was in use around every other day/every third day. I only ended up using them twice, though.
