I was wondering if there was a way to reverse a decision. My son applied to OSU in October and just received notice he was not accepted. He has always been an outstanding student but had some health issues last year which affected his grades. His HS guidance counselor sent a letter with his transcripts explaining the extenuating circumstances of last year. He takes all AP classes and has a GPA of 3.2 (weighted). He did not do well on his ACTs (24).

We live out of state. Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do to have the decision reversed?

yeah… I don’t think you can do that

Appealing a rejection is next to impossible at Ohio State given its size. Your son could always go somewhere else for a semester, and then transfer to OSU, since transferring to the school is pretty easy compared to getting in out of high school (very common for people to get in with 2.5’s).

If Ohio State is his dream school and he wants a guaranteed way to get in eventually, there is the option of going to a branch campus. I was also declined to admission at OSU, so I applied for a summer program for OSU - Columbus and then went to OSU Mansfied for this Fall, and I have just recently reapplied to OSU and have been accepted. All students at branch campuses have a guaranteed admittance into the Columbus campus with 45 credits (takes about a year to earn), I just had to apply because I only have 31 (without AP’s).

Feel free to ask me questions about the Mansfield branch or the campus change process if this interests him, there are many advantages to going to a branch campus as opposed to Columbus, such as way smaller class sizes and a guarantee of being taught by a professor for all your classes instead of a TA.
