Review books

I have read threads about the best review books, but I feel like they are outdated (if I am wrong, please tell me). I plan to take subject tests in August/October (still deciding which test date), and I want to know the best review books to get me the very least a 700 on the following tests:

  1. US History: I just recently finished taking US History Honors, but the class only covers from Civil War to present day, so I have not learned a good chunk of the test. So, I want a concise book that is not overly-daunting (as Barron's is claimed to be), and gives a comprehensive review on pre-Civil War times, as I have not learned it yet. I have heard AMSCO is extremely good, as well as Larry Krieger's APUSH book, which I have heard to be even better, but I want to make sure I am making the right purchase.
  2. French: I am currently a rising senior, and took AP French sophomore year. My school is on block schedule, so I took French 1-AP in two years, so I am not AS knowledgeable as other students would be, whom have taken French for four-five years. Though, I can say I have a very decent grasp on the language. But, I have obviously lost my touch with the language because it has been a whole year since I took the class. I want a book that extensively covers grammar and helps me practice my reading skills. PR and Barron's have been the only books I have heard people use.
