Review my portfolio and stats and let me know my chances- please be honest!

Hi! I'm a senior at a competitive public high school in the Chicagoland area. I'm positive I want to pursue a career in architecture (I know the pitfalls and challenges inherent in that; I already read Architect? by Roger K. Lewis, I have been reading about architecture both recreationally and for research purposes for nearly all of my life, and I'm sure that it's what I want to do.)

That being said, I know how competitive the field is and I would like to be able to gauge my chances at getting accepted to the programs I'm applying to- I'm applying to (in order of my desire to attend: Washington University in St. Louis, Cooper Union (more of a pipe dream than anything else) Pratt Institute, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, University of Illinois- Chicago.

I have a 4.1 GPA (roughly 3.8 unweighted) and a 32 on my ACT.
I have completed 5 years of math and am taking AP Calculus now (took summer math)
4 years of lab science, 4 years of english, 4 years of social science, 4 years of art (I took at least one art course each semester). I have taken 7 AP courses in total, I am a tutor, part of a leadership program, have a varsity letter in Model United Nations (RANDOM! but it is a credential I suppose) and have won awards for my art.

I will link you to the portfolio if you are interested in seeing it- my main concern is that is definitely more of a fine art portfolio, there isn't any technical drawings or layouts or really anything architectural about it. I'm afraid that it won't be technical enough- does anyone know whether or not they look for that?

Thank you so much for your time, I would absolutely love to know my chances. Talented people all around me are getting rejected, and my anxiousness is eating away at me since I haven't technically applied anywhere yet.

P.S.- the watermarks i placed on my art are somewhat obnoxious, but people advised that i put them on before posting them on the internet for security reasons. try to see around them...

I don't know enough about undergrad architecture admissions to tell you your chances. I'm guessing that your stats are good enough for any of the schools you are applying to. I'd be happy to look at the portfolio. I'm a practicing architect and was on the admissions committee at Columbia's grad school - many eons ago when portfolios were on pieces of paper. :) Just pm me the link.

I'll be happy to look at your protfolio and give you feed back on that, just PM me the link.

My son is also a senior at a Chicago area suburban high school and applied to architecture schools. We visited Syracuse and they told us they really didn't want to see any CAD drawings or really anything architectural.

My son has a 31 ACT and a GPA unweighted of 4.93 (out of 5) and 5.42 weighted. He just got accepted at Penn State and U of Cincinnati. A friend of his got accepted for architecture at UIUC with a 26 ACT and a much less GPA than his.

you seem to have exemplary stats for the colleges you chose. If I were in your position I would go for Cornell b. arch- of course the portfolio is probably the most important part of your application.- from what i can tell colleges do not want technical drawings.

what were your ap scores?

good luck

Your stats are great. I would think that the decision would be therefore based on your portfolio. Feel free to pm me the link for further feedback.

I want you can see first 15 portfolio pages online.

Do I have any chance?. I would appreciatte all your opinions.

carl, it's a nice portfolio. It's very hard to evaluate how your grades and exams will be evaluated as an international student. I think you have a reasonable chance.

My S wants to transfer into Architecture from I/D. Problem is he is halfway through Junior year (70+ credits taken in foundation and I/D classes). Does anyone know if he has a chance of being accepted into a certified Arch program this late in the game? His first pick is Temple or NJIT. Thank you for any help you can provide.

eileen,
You might be better off asking this on a a new thread where someone who knows would more easily see you question.
I'd suggest you have your son call the schools he's interested, however I'd guess he would be better off finishing his ID degree and then enroll in an accredited MArch program.

Hi mommath,
Thanks very much for your opinion. Yes, I know is hard to evaluate my aplication because its different to US arch students...context, grades, etc. I know universities I am aplying in US are very competitive but I hope I would be considered for at least one of them with some financial aid. I think my strong points are letters of rec...r

I'd like to see and give you some feedback, PM me. ^^

pm me--- general curiosity-

PM me as well. Out of the same curiosity Tzar is suffering from.

To Carl:

so u are using Blurb as well? Are we really allowed to use those services?

Hi cfso195,
Hi, I think blurb was the better way to get together my material in order to make my portfolio. I read all intructions from institutions I am applying and most of them explain portfolio´s format should be as simple as it can be to be handle by evaluators.
So I forgot about inusual ways to bound and package portfolio.
I didn´t have too much time too. I guess what its important is your work. They way how its shown could be design on those blurb layouts. I think you can do a great job mixing blurb and designing each one of pages you will add.
Where are you applying?.
Best,
Carlos

So yes, Blurb is just the printer and give a general layout.
We add all contents that what they want to evaluate.
Best,
Carlos
