Review this list

okay here it is.
NOTE: I couldn’t finish the science section (lost like 4 points) because the printer didn’t print some graphs -_-

What do you say?

It’s equivalent to a 1950 on the SAT, so potentially you could do better on the ACT since it’s likely you’d get a bit higher on science. The ACT is on Sept 13 with registration before the 8th, I assume they have some test locations in Italy.

yes they are test location here, but they don’t offer the september test date and it’s really a pity because that would be the only date comfortable for me :(

It looks like the test locations for test centers outside the US and Canada haven’t been announced yet.
Are you far from another European country? Might there be a center there? I agree the September date would be ideal…;

well, it is costly to go outside! I don’t know if my parents would let me. Switzerland is the most comfortable

What about if you can find 1° a discounted train ticket (since you’d be buying it well ahead of the date of travel) and 2° a cheap hotel/hoste?

I think the ACT site doesn’t work properly today. As soon as figure out where is the Switzerland test center I will be able to decide. Still, it will be very unlikely that I will be able to go.

@MYOS1634‌ I talked with my mom and she said she’d prefer not to do this. We are not very far away from Switzerland, but still she would prefer not to go. We decided that we would talk about it later on, when the dates/centers will be available on the site.

It makes sense and actually is the most reasonable.
In the meanwhile, practice with number2.com, Khan Academy, and “Real SAT’s” (blue book) - what prep books have you used so far?

I practiced on the blue book and had other practice test from the web

Use the websites I indicated (number2.com, Khan Academy). if you’ve never seen a “prep manual” like Kaplan’s or Princeton Review’s, buying one is worth the investment (about 15 to 20 euros I think). For someone who’s never taken a standardized test (that would be most European students), those textbooks spell out exactly how they work and how to use the format to your advantage.

Ah sorry, I forgotten. I used also Barron’s guide. I’ve signed up for both the sites you wrote some months ago and did some practice (not everything).
Unfortunally the books are very expensive for me, because of the taxes and the fact that they come form the USA :(

I checked and there’s amazon in Italy. Because it’s pretty cheap to get American books in Europe this way. Otherwise, order from amazon UK, or another company.
For instance:
http://www.amazon.it/Kaplan-Premier-2015-Practice-Tests-ebook/dp/B00DKMOJY8</a></p>

I will look at that, thank you :)

edit: uhm that’s the kindle format. I will search for something else anyway, thanks!

Probably I already asked this, but I recived some bad news from two unis, so I’m trying to fix the situation.

Do you know something about University of Colorado - Boulder and University of Georgia?
Always the same things (academics/weather/in the city/campus etc)

Even if it’s the kindle version, just look at the square box at the top, there should be something like “Kindle”, “softcover”, “hardcover”… Click on “softcover”. That website should get you the books you need without charging extra for transportation and in my experience they’re quite good at delivering quickly. (Choose “deliver items as they become available” if you order several of them).

What sort of bad news (if you don’t mind to share) - is that regarding accomodations, admissions…?

UColorado is in the mountains. Look for (I think!) the senior member “jkeil” who attended and as an alumnus knows about the university. Boulder is a great college town but it’s up high. I don’t think ice is a major issue but there’s snow from October till March-April. It’s known for many sunny days. Like at UVermont, skiing is a frequent activity, which makes UColorado Boulder a somewhat desirable destination for some college students, with the added peculiarity that pot is legal.
http://www.explore-boulder-colorado.com/boulder-weather.html</a></p>

University of Georgia is crazy about football. Its Honors program is excellent. It’s in a college town but I don’t know anything about it (it’s not known for being an awesome college town but it doesn’t mean it’s bad in any way.)The weather is very muggy as all over the southeast (hot and humid, like in a hammam).

I will contact jkeil asap (well, as soon as the school answer me)! I really hoped it was not in the mountain D:

Yeah well, I don’t think I will be in the honors college (too bad), but still I think I will consider it. As long as there is no ice/snow/too much rain, it’s perfect.

I contacted both school anyway.

The bad news came from Univ of Richmond and UDenver! They both said that some buildings don’t have elevators and that they don’t have shuttles.

I know that UDenver is very small so it won’t be a huge problem, but I don’t know about Richmond.
They both said that they will put my classes in accessible buildings, but the person from Denver that said that seemed more convincing.

I was thinking about not even applying to them (at least Richmond)

I think you should look at some LACs: Earlham should have all of its buildings accessible AND be proud of accomodating you, for instance.
<a href=“Academics : Earlham College”>http://www.earlham.edu/academics/</a>
<a href=“Neuroscience : Earlham College”>http://www.earlham.edu/neuroscience/</a>
http://www.earlham.edu/human-development-and-social-relations/</a>
Check out Agnes Scott. It’s in Georgia but it’s smaller, more compact, with access to Georgia Tech for some classes.

This is purely my personal opinion so post questions about comparins UGeorgia to the other universities on your list out on the “College selection” forum please.
I wouldn’t recommend UGeorgia for someone who doesn’t care about American football at all, isn’t into partying/Greek Life/alcohol, and won’t be in the Honors Program. The school’s fascination and dedication to football and football players is not something you can imagine. You could say that from UAlabama also, of course, and every school in the SEC, probably. (The SEC is the most competitive football league among the different university groups.) Don’t mistake me: BIG10 and BIG 12 teams are HUGE on campus but seem to dominate everyone’s weekends less.
Ask on the “college selection” forum about sports/football importance at various big universities to get a better idea (Include Penn State, UGA, UColorado Boulder…). On the college admission forum title “UGA vs.PSU vs. UCO-Boulder vs. …” and ask for a comparison, see what people tell you.
I don’t know where you live in Italy, but imagine being in Torino when the Juventus is playing. Now, imagine the stadium is big enough you could fit the entire town in it. Imagine the stadium is surrounded by a huge parking lot where thousands more people “tailgate” (a type of partying). Imagine what happens when the team wins. If half the town is doing something else, the atmosphere is different. Then again, you may find that awesome (many do, even if they didn’t like football before, and LOVE it, with face paint, dances, etc, etc.) I just remember finding the way athletes were treated at UGA (basically, fawning), offputting. YMMV: for my opinion, you’ll probably get many that’ll tell you how fantastic it is and why. :)

as soon as I find out if I’m admitted, I will post these XX vs YY thread, don’t worry :stuck_out_tongue: I just wanted a general idea from someone.

I’m not really into football, but one of the reasons I want to go to college abroad is to “change myself”, to explore new worlds, new things etc… And if I will not like it, I’m sure I will find something else to do (netflix for example haha). same goes for party and alcohol.

just to know - basically a random question - apart from UAlabama, is there any other honors college (that would be worth) that is likely will accept me?

I believe someone briefly mentioned College of Charleston. It’s located in a warm climate with a flat urban campus in a charming small city. CofC has a neuroscience program and a lot of research opportunities with the Medical University of South Carolina. FYI: Charleston is home to the Spoleto Festival USA which is a counterpart to the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy.
