I've had this status listed for the past 3 weeks or so and I was wondering how long I will have to wait until McGill has a decision made. If anyone had this status before and got a reply, how long did you have to wait? I really hope that I don't have to wait until March 31 for a decision. :(

Also, is this because I have weak scores? I've seen that many people with stronger scores than I get admitted already. Please rate me.

STATS:
ACT: 32 (English - 32, Math - 32, Reading - 30, Science - 33)
SAT: 1980 - 800M, 630W, 550CR (below requirements)
SATII: Chinese - 680, Biology - 680, Math II - 750, Lit - 550 (below requirements, I took it last minute w/out prep)
GPA: I just transfered from senior year so they're looking at two transcripts - freshman - junior: 4.1 senior: 4.5 W, 3.5 UW
Freshman year was very poor (3.8W) and the only year with under 4.0 W so it should be higher since they don't look at freshman grades.
9 AP courses, many honors

I'm hoping that my critical reading and lit scores won't hold me back, especially since I applied to science.

i totally would not have sent those SAT scores, since your ACT scores areawesome and replaces any need for SATI/IIs.. but oh well, too late now.
mcgill also doesn't look at the weighted gpa... so your stats aren't too easy to judge. but ya, i guess none of us will be able to predict when you will get a decision, since you have sub-par SAT scores. but good luck!

Thanks syzonin. I calculated my unweighted GPA without freshman year (and this is without PE too) and it's a 3.71.
I definitely do regret sending in those SAT scores now. I contacted McGill before I sent them and they said that they would look at the better one so I should send both ACT and SAT.

Ide say it looks like an in at arts and in at management.

Dunno about science or engineering (not an area im familiar with)

If you applied for the arts and science BA+BSc dual degree, then you won't get in, but they only accept like 5% of their applicants or something anyway and it is a fairly new program.

There was a kid on here who got an answer from science 10 days after they recieved his semester grades.

I've been on this status for 5+ weeks, and they just recieved my grades about a week ago. I don't know what it means... You're not exactly borderline if it's just ACT and GPA.

bigtwix: no, it's already been a few weeks...thanks though!

ahhhcollege: I know, some people have been getting accepted quickly...others...like me and you...not so quick...but what do you mean not borderline? like below or above?

I'm hoping you're above because we have similar stats. And yea I think it's just because you applied for science, it's mainly kids who applied to management or arts that hear within hours. Science really takes their time... Lazy slobs.

Do they have your semester grades? I'm trying to figure out why I was put on this status well before they recieved mine.

That's the reason it sometimes takes so long? Phew, that's good to hear.

Question: Do applicants for the Arts&Science Dual Degree have to wait an especially long time? Since they allow only a very small percentage, I'm assuming they're very meticulous about it all.

haha yeah I'm hoping I'm above too :P I did see some people and know someone that got in right away with science though =/

I sent my semester grades near the end of January and they updated from Further Review Required to Ready for Review to Reviewed - Decision Pending and I've been at Reviewed - Decision Pending since the first week of February.

From reading previous posts for Arts & Science, I think it does take the most time. I heard they only accept about 5% of their applicants, but don't quote me for that. If you don't make it into the Arts & Sci dual degree, you still have a shot at being accepted into faculty of arts or faculty of science though.

^ughh. That sucks, I was hoping that you just sent in your grades, I don't know what I'll do if they don't tell me within the next week. I don't want to wait until April 1st!

Did the people who got in right away have amazing stats??

i actually dont remember many kids posting on here that they were accepted to science, but im sure my own stress about getting accepted to arts made me disregard specific faculties other people on here were accepted to.

my advice would be (if you have one) go check out the facebook group because I know there is at least one forum where people listed what they were interested in and which faculty they were accepted to. or maybe you already have, but look over the specific chunk of one of the discussion/accepted threads on here (i forget the exact name of the one i know i posted a lot on) and that will give you some stats as well.

ps. i know some of the people here (boring/bigtwix) are in disbelief over my 3.3uw/30 acceptance...but clearly, i guess i am that awesome :p the fact that i have really impressive goalie records from this past season and came to the fh coaches saying i really wanted to play probably only helped my app...not to mention i want to be an english major and ive had straight A english grades all through high school despite my 9th/10th grade extenuating circumstances as well as 35 english and 34 reading with 12 on the writing.

...just to clear things up. i dont particularly enjoy being the "how did SHE get in??"

anyway, i think you have a very high chance of being accepted. try not to get discouraged, you have very good stats.

wow lots of posts! :)
I'm thinking that we might have to wait until March 31st :( At first, when I saw that I was like omg! they'll probably have a decision soon! BUT then if you read the help page it says : Reviewed - decision pending

All necessary documents have been received and your application has been reviewed but a decision cannot be made at this time. Most decisions will be made by the decision release deadline posted on our website. For CEGEP students only: We are unable to make a decision until courses in progress have been completed. Please see your decision letter for further details.

That means that we might not find out until about the March 31st deadline.

I was looking at the pages on the forums for previous years and they got into science with good stats. My boyfriend also got in right away without the "Reviewed - Decision Pending" and his stats are ACT 35 and GPA UW 3.6 for soph-senior for science.

As for science, I think it MIGHT be a little bit more competitive than arts.

peanutbutter3: I went to facebook and there's 500+ groups for McGill...any more specifics?
Also, congrats on your acceptance :) McGill looks at the grades relevant to the major you apply for more than the overall I believe, so good job on your English scores!
And also..thank you!

A little off topic but...on the bright side...no more anticipation for U of Toronto! did anyone else apply there as well for their Canadian schools? Also, just wondering, did you guys apply to lots of American schools as well? I'm curious to what attracts other people to Canadian schools as well :)

Out of curiosity (meaning, please, no one get testy at me! we're a nice forum), is a 3.3 unweighted GPA really that bad? Isn't that something like a B+/A-? And it's not that far off from the average of 3.7.

Furthermore, if people are in disbelief over that, anyone hear about the kid who got accepted into Stanford with a SAT score of 1700? It's a pretty awesome story; the guy deserves it. (Though, yes, you can't quite compare since Stanford's admissions are much more holistic than McGill's. Still, good story.)

(Also, BIGTWIX, please correct us if we misconstrued the tone of your post! No hard feelings if so?)

No, McGill was my only Canadian school.

Reasons for being attracted: I saw McGill last year when I visited my sister, who's a student there. Montreal seemed a bit "sleepy" to me, though that perception is mostly due to me having lived near Washington, D.C. and New York City. (I was there for a week, so my viewpoint has more error.) However, it's a very beautiful city, and I think, if I were to live there, I could get very used to it.

Also, my sister is extremely happy there, and considering how depressed she was that she didn't get into her first choice college, it certainly says a lot about the power of McGill.

Strong overall academics and being a foreign university (for me) are a definite benefit. Oh, and I can't forget the financial reasons! If I was able to get a scholarship, it would be fantastic. (Question: does McGill give basic and major scholarships to Americans?)

Ahaha, I applied to so many schools. I could have saved so much money.
1. SUNY Binghamton University (accepted)
2. SUNY Stony Brook University (accepted)
3. Columbia University (SEAS)
4. Cornell University (CALS)
5. George Washington University (7-year BA/MD program)
6. Johns Hopkins (biomedical engineering @ Whiting School of Engineering)
7. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (deferred EA)
8. McGill University (1st choice: Arts & Sciences Interfaculty, 2nd: Science Faculty)
9. Washington & Jefferson College (accepted)

Any of you applying to the same places as me?

^I applied to JHU and GWU, but neither appeals to me just due to the campus. My father wanted to apply to the ivies and MIT but the feel of the campus was to focused around studying... until you're dead. McGill has great academics and it's in a city where it's not hard to have a social life.

I've also looked at the previous posts for science, and they tend to be anything above a 3.5 and 2000 on the SAT with good subject tests. I have a 2100, including a 750 in math, and I have never gotten less than an A in any math or science class at a rigorous boarding school (and I doubled in science junior and senior year). My SATs aren't exactly wonderful because I got a 630 on verbal, but I don't think that one section's bad enough to have me on this decision pending for five weeks. I've had my guidance counselor call twice and they refuse to help out...

It's just frustrating b/c the kids who get 'reviewed-decision pending' for arts have WELL BELOW the cutoff stats. Like I know this girl in my town who has a 1850 on the SAT and has this status; she should have been rejected right off the bat. In all honesty, we both exceed the requirements for the faculty of science as stated on mcgill's website for the past three years.. which is why this whole ordeal is so lame.

I'm sooo glad you posted though... you've given me a lot of hope.

Nah, it was a serious post. I think it was peanutbutter I was thinkin of.
3.3 is believable 4 sure. (the person before my post asked if anyone got in pretty quickly without stellar stats so i said myself and then pb)
