Reviewed - Decision Pending Status/Chances

My DS has decision pending for science. SAT 2260, GPA 3.3 uw /3.9w, GPA senior midyear 4.6w, 3 SAT II's, 740, 760 ,780, 5 AP's (four 5's and one 4), taking 4 AP's senior year. He had a C+ in BC Calculus but scored 5 on the AP.
If had stopped at regular precalc and got a B, I think he probably would have been accepted.

Did anyone apply to U of Toronto? Has anyone been accepted yet?

^WOW. He has insanely high scores... the grades in math might hurt him, but if he got a 5 on the test then they would be stupid to reject him. I don't understand the faculty of science.

i was accepted to science speedily
GPA 3.9/SAT 2240/relevant SATIIs 700+

sophia: try searching mcgill 2012, there's a rather large one and you can see which faculties certain people were accepted to and if you go through the wall post i think more than a few people have posted stats. im sure you could also look up mcgill 2011, that group would probably have similar resources for you even though it's from last year

Skramata: Thanks for sharing your reasons :) I haven't heard of a couple the schools that you applied to, but for the more famous ones (Cornell, MIT, Johns Hopkins) I considered them but saving the competition for grad school. But I'm assuming you're on the east coast. I'm pretty sure American and international students are qualified for the scholarships. I haven't read anything saying that we're not.

NiceOldMom: I applied to Toronto and got accepted this weekend. :) :) :) The calculus C+ should not hurt the application at all though.

ahhhcollege: my 1980 isn't far from the 1850 =/ maybe she's strong in whatever faculty she applied for. Please don't put me in that "how did she get in" category either.

And for everyone else...
Does McGill look at SAT scores more heavily or something, because no one else has posted ACT scores.

Also, I've heard that graduating from a Canadian school makes it difficult to find a job in America. Do you guys plan on coming back after college or staying in college, and do you know any information on that?

sophia - you're ACTS are GREAT, and I assume that they won't take notice of your SATs because of that. I don't see you in the 'borderline' catagory, which is why this status is so confusing to me! I mean don't they only require a 26 for most faculties??

I'm tempted to call up again, but they were no help.

Alright, thanks then. That's what I've read too. I don't think calling helps at all because the people that answer the calls aren't the people that do the admissions. Plus, they probably get hundreds of calls concerning individual applications every day and are sick of it.

Did you send ACT or SAT, or both?

I didn't take the ACT... I'm beginning to think that it would've been a good thing to do because if you do well composite wise you seem to be set? like they seem to require with teh SAT, setting minimums for each section and each subject test. The whole admissions process at McGill confuses me tons!

what?! you didn't? What region do you live in? EVERYONE takes the ACT in Illinois, but no one takes the SAT. haha. weird. Don't worry, their process confuses me a lot too....just like lots of other schools.

i never took the SAT...ACT was just easier and I could deal with the timing better than the interpretation of the boringness that is the SAT. I think that the ACT was originally more popular and required for entrance to western/midwestern schools awhile ago...i think its only in the past few years that it become pretty much universal for a testing score.

^It's definately not popular in New England, I had never heard of it before a couple of years ago. Either way, I applied to a few schools that were solely SAT I + II so I saw no reason at the time.

I kind of wish I had taken it now, but it was kind of frowned upon at my school (I'm assuming they wanted to boost their SAT average, cuz it's private and only report the ave SAT) >.<

oh wow I thought the ACT was nationwide like SAT use to be which is why I was surprised that so many people only sent SAT.
Thanks guys!

haha, here in california nobody takes it (except for me). I have 2 friends that took it, and that's all i know of.

oh wow im surprised, i though it was like the standard at western schools, especially in Cali. but I am pretty sure that it is the norm/more commonly used in the west.

i hadnt heard of the ACT until junior year...the SAT is the norm here, and I'm one of the few people I know that never even took the SAT (aside from the SAT IIs), but i only took those because they were required with either the ACT or SAT for NYU. im kinda bitter though because I spent so much time studying for AP US and took them twice and didnt even get in. haha.

yeah I think Cali just started accepting ACT this year...I was looking at a couple of the schools there.
I guess the ACT is only midwest.

I know all the top schools in california have been taking ACTs for years, and I'm pretty sure UCs and CSUs have too. At least I know a guy who's 55 now and he took ACT.

But yeah, UCs take them, Stanford, Caltech, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, USC, all the good ones.

Nobody hardly ever actually takes the test here though.

actually a lot of people at my school (norcal) take it. Some people do better on one test, so they usually try both out. i didn't use my score because i did better on my SATs.

I got into the faculty of agriculture & environmental sciences right away, but my status for arts says "reviewed- decision pending." I know science is harder than arts but maybe environmental science is easy beacuse it's on the macdonald campus. I have pretty low test scores/gpa

SAT: 1920 (610,680,630) math2: 710 bio: 680
UW gpa: 3.56

I've been in "Reviewed -Decision Pending" for over three weeks. I'm upset.
How long did you guys wait?

Here are my stats:
ACT 34
GPA 3.7ish weighted - brought down by lower grades in maths and sciences
pretty much all honors and AP classes with 1 or 2 CPs
Applied to faculty of arts

i'm freaking out! Over 3 weeks??!

Bmuskal, i am pretty sure u ll get into arts...
it could be anyday now
