Do all schools have revisit days?

Are they just a chance for the kids to shadow or do they also get to stay in the dorms and sleepover?

We are from the midwest and unsure how to handle this

Accepted only

Most schools have revisit days, often with overnights. It’s a fantastic way for your child to have a second, closer look at the top couple of choices to which she has been admitted. Revisits are not required.

All schools have them for accepted students only (not waitlisted).
Some have sleepovers, most do not.
Once accepted, check the schedules and how each school does their day.
There is a parent component as well as a student.
Usually there is a panel of parents and students for questions.
It is a really good opportunity to see the school again. If you have more than one acceptance, and can make a trip and do them all I would highly recommend it.
I know more than one student who was 99% going to attend what they thought was their first choice. They did revisit days to both first and second choice schools and picked second choice hands down.
It’s a great opportunity for parents to ask all the questions you might not ask during the interview process as well.

I agree with Linda S. If it is at all possible, attend all your revisit days, even at the schools which you think you like least.

It’s also a great opportunity to ask questions of other parents about other schools your child might have been accepted by, or waitlisted by. We noticed quite a bit of overlap between schools, in the students they accept.

It’s the first chance you’ll have to see at least a portion of the students the admissions team has accepted. Your child will be able to attend classes, usually with a matched current student. It’s a time to check the fit of the school, for your child and for you. You can ask questions you might not have thought to ask while visiting schools.

if you did a shadow at the school you are applying to, should you still go to the revisit day, if you get accepted?

In my opinion, yes you should still do the revisit day if possible.

does anybody know what schools do overnights during revisits?

i like cheese.

I think that Thacher does overnight visits, but I am not sure about any other schools.

At Revisit days don’t the students just shadow other students. What are the schools that have overnight revisits?

It depends on the school. Some have 2 day programs, some have overnights (I don’t think that is the majority though). Most have parent programs. There can be panels of students and parents, kind of like at some open houses. There are sometimes fine arts performances, high profile speakers (Andover had Bill Belichick one year) and more. It is the school’s chance to sell themselves on you. They have said yes to you and now they want you to say yes to them. Sometimes there are games or scrimmages at the end of the day.
Anytime you can spend more time on campus observing and being a part of the school, the better feel you can get.
Better yet - if you can (probably late now with spring break coming) go to a sporting event or drama production at one of the schools you are applying to. See what the students are like at a hockey game. Best thing - go to a game when two of your choices are playing each other! See fans on both sides.

Revisit days are about being on campus. The more you can be there, the better your decision will be.

Thanks Linda S. That was a really helpful post.
