Revisits 2009 - Thoughts? Impressions?

oh… now i have to decide.
it’s so hard, because i love exeter and groton equally and i feel that wherever i’ll go i’ll be happy.

i loved exeter because there was a lot of diversity, and the kids there all seemed to be very confident, something i think that the harkness table has given them.
i met a couple ee kids, and the majority of the people seemed very nice.
except i met one girl that annoyed me majorly, and i’m hoping she ends up going to some other school if i do attend exeter.
though it sounded like she was leaning towards exeter.
oh, and the dorms weren’t as great as groton’s…
hmm…
my tour guide was nice, but… it seemed like she didn’t really want me as an ee person.
for the most part, i felt that exeter was a great school, but i’m still not sure if i want to go.

at groton, my tour guide was a lot open and compassionate (not that my exeter one wasn’t).
everyone was so friendly.
oh, and all the guys were soooooooooooo hot/cute and the girls were so pretty. i was jealous ^^
oh, and the dorms as i have mentioned a million times before, were AMAZING!!!
the only thing that i didn’t like too much was that there wasn’t a lot of diversity, it looked like 90% of the student body was caucasian and the buildings/facilities weren’t as great as exeter’s.

Take this anyway you’d like, but from a totally impartial point of view, when you describe Exeter, you sound very matter of fact. When you describe Groton, you sound alive. To an outsider, it sounds like your heart is saying groton.
Either way, you can’t go wrong.
Good luck.

XOXO: what are ee kids?

I’d say groton is where your heart is, the diversity issue for you may not be accurate. it may be just what you were aware of when you were there, wish you could go back and see it again :frowning: but i think you’ll pick exeter!

friendly is good! groton is friendly!

Dear xoxohersheykiss,

I’m sorry that your Exeter revisit disappointed you a bit, but I’m happy you haven’t ruled it out yet!

First of all, even though you met another prospective student who was annoying, you shouldn’t let them influence your decision to come. The school is big, and you’ll meet tons of people who you enjoy hanging out with or eating meals with. There are always going to be people who you like more than others, people who you find are nicer than other people, but I’m pretty sure those kinds of students will exist in every school; every school will have a few people who are a bit into themselves, less friendly, gossips, etc.

Myself, I met some really cool prospectives and I do hope that by having a conversation with them I affected their opinion of Exeter in a positive way, even if by only a little bit :). There are plenty of people who want you to choose the school.

ee= experience exeter.

i filled out my card for milton saying that i wouldn’t go, but i couldn’t bear to do anything w/ groton and exeter.

on mar. 10 when i found out that i was accepted to exeter, groton, and milton, i told my mom that i was so happy i got accepted to exeter and everything. that i would go and i’d be happy there and there only.
i had seriously ruled out groton before mar. 10 anyways because i thought i’d get rejected, but then… i didn’t.
when i went back for revisits, my mind began to slowly change.
i still liked exeter a lot, but i began to… hmm… have serious thoughts about groton.
before, i didn’t even want to go to a revisit to that school and i thought everyone would be stuck-up and stuff.

i told my dad and my mom that i’d go to exeter but since we haven’t turned in our payments and stuff, i’m not 100% positive.

oh, yea, i think my heart’s at groton, but my mind is all, “exeter!! exeter is the place!!”

candescence, are you a current student at exeter? if you are, were you accepted to any other school? oh, and if you were, why’d you pick exeter?

xoxohersheykiss: You might ask yourself if you like a more college-like environment or a smaller, more intimate one. Another way to think about it might be are you more of a big fish in a smaller pond or a small fish in the biggest pond type? Both are terrific schools, but they are very different and your experience at each is likely to vary a lot as a result. I suspect you will be able to make good friends at either school. You might look at the course catalogues to see if there are some courses you really want to take that are only offered at one of the schools. If you want to study Arabic, you probably have to select Exeter. However, outside some more esoteric specialties, Groton offers a pretty competitive courseload. It also probably offers more opportunities to participate in a meaningful or leadership role way in sports or ec’s. For example, if you are not a top athlete, but still want to play on a competitive team, you would probably have more chance at Groton. I think most of the schools use the Harkness method to some extent, although they are realizing that some courses are better off using smart boards or language or science labs or team approaches than the Harkness approach. Finally, if all else is equal, you might ask which one is easier to get to from your home. Having parents visit mid-week or being able to go home for a weekend occasionally can be valuable.

i’ve chosen exeter (my mom probably sent the payment via fed ex).
i feel like i’m doing the right thing, i’m just nervous that i won’t be able to be the same student i am currently.
oh well, i’m going to have to work really hard.
thanks everyone!

i just want to do well at exeter…
my dream is to just go to a top notch college, if not ivy league, then somewhere like univ. of chicago, duke, unc, etc…

Went to SM’s today.
Wonderful experience.
Forgot who said something about one big building and being cooped up but I didnt get that feeling…there was so much light and open, there is no way to feel cooped up.
The school meeting was great. S was beaming after we left.

Yes, I’m a student at Exeter  I was accepted at a couple other schools. Initially, after revisits, there was a different, slightly less prestigious school that I liked more, but in the end my family and friends convinced me that Exeter was the “best”. I mean, I’m not complaining either. Since I have been here, I have never thought, “I wonder what it would have been like if I went to ___ school instead.”

Of course there are aspects that I don’t like, but it’s called compromise. I don’t believe there exists a school that is perfect and has everything.
