Revocation of admission

Under what circumstances has UW revoked offered admission in the past that you know of? Was it the dip in the GPA of the student's senior year? Or maybe even something worse? Let's talk about it so that those of us who want to maintain our spot in the UW freshman class, can make sure everything's covered. :)

Last summer, there was a news article in the Seattle Times, I think, about revoked admissions. From what I can remember, here are some reasons:

-Did not finish senior year (dropped out)
-Did not send transcripts (school should automatically forward them in June)
-Grades dropped significantly (All A’s to All A’s and a B+ shouldn’t be bad… more like dropping from straight A’s to C’s and lower, etc)
-Changing senior classes (All IB/APs/Honors -> All non IB/AP/Honors)
-They found out people lied about extra curriculars, classes, the grades they got in the classes, etc. aka BE HONEST in the application

That’s as much as I can remember, hopefully we can compile a more complete list of reasons.

Here it is the article:

[Local News | UW revokes admission offers in severe cases of “senioritis” | Seattle Times Newspaper](http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003286270_uwadmissions03m.html)

It’s really interesting.

Thank you BubbleTeaChibi and dariop, I’m sure this will help keep the number of rescinded letters low this year. If more people want to add other helpful tips, I’d really appreciate it!

New question: How low can senior grades be so that they will be considered acceptable by UW?

At the end of my junior year, I had a 3.75 GPA with an upward trend. These are the grades I got for senior first semester: B, C, B+, B, A, B, and A- (dropping my GPA to 3.66).

Exactly how detrimental will this be?

I wouldn’t worry about it too much you guys. I have a friend who finished his senior year with a solid 3.0 for 8th semester, which was MUCH lower then 1-6th and even 7th. He is currently a Husky.
Of course this isn’t to say “yeah go ahead and slack off uw doesn’t care” - they do. But a tiny drop in GPA, maybe 1 C, especially in a hard AP class, will almost certainly not revoke your admission.
From what I’ve heard, they’re looking at serious drops: A’s and B’s -> C’s and D’s type of drop, OR dropping all hard classes and taking PE instead of finishing your full year APs.
Little drops like what you guys have mentioned before will most likely not make a difference at all, breath easy and continue to work hard.
As long as you’re staying at A’s and B’s, you should most likely be okay.

pumpkins – According to the article:

i dropped my ap stat class at the beginning of 2nd semester and that article is freaking me out…

do i have to send email to admission office and notify them about my schedule change??? i seriously want to go uw …danggggggggggg

@ameyajy - you should email the admissions office so they know that you dropped ap stats and what your schedule is now. Otherwise, they might get confused at your final transcripts.

On another note, one of my classmates dropped out of my ap stats class in the beginning of 2nd semester, too! She had the required math classes though, so it was ‘acceptable’ that she dropped out of stats.

@BubbleTeaChiibi

Thanks kkkkkk
i just sent email to admission office kk i hope it will be fine…

I decided to add one more class to my 2nd semester schedule than I had put on my application, is that fine?

And also, I’m a running start student … & I think I’m gonna fail my math class. :frowning: THAT I TRIED SO HARD IN!! Do you think that will be fine? :(

My schedule is
Running Start:
Pre Calc quarter 2 (before calc)
English 101

High school:
Retail Store
AP Physics
Digital Photography* was my added course

@LoveUW- it would probably be a smart idea to email them and let them know, but since you are adding a class, more specifially an elective I think you should be fine

Should I email the admissions office?

Is going from a 3.75 to a 3.65 considered a huge drop in GPA?

Ooh I might get two C’s this quarter.

That won’t be a significant drop, I’ve heard people who had more dramatic drops in their GPA and still got into UW. You’ll be fine :D

@Igi, what was the grades for those 2 classes when you sent your application in?

I’m a full Running Start student. I’m sure my grade in Pre Calculus 2 will be lousy and my English grade might be too. The final paper is seriously like 70% of our grade. I hope one D doesn’t revocate(?) admission.

OMG OMG! Same here!!! Well I’m part time. But I just had my pre calculus quarter 2 finals today… This final determines if I PASS or FAIL the class. The passing grade is 2.0 = C.

Do you think they would revoke my letter if I either failed the class or had a C?!

wow! i was just worrying about that. I got a C in my anatomy and physiology class at running start. I’m worried that i’ll get revoked and end up at community college because I wouldn’t be paying for tuition at any other schools.

You have 2 C’s?

If its not only me that has this problem, then I’m sure we will probably be alright then :)

What if you fail a running start class though… WIll that revoke it?
