I have many international mathematical awards, and I am looking for the best way to word them on my application when I send it next fall.

Here are two different ways I can put the same award:

Gold medal in [name of competition] - INTERNATIONAL

or

Top 6% internationally in [name of competition] - INTERNATIONAL

I have found the percentiles on the official website of the competitions.

Do you think I am making myself sound too good by using the percentages?
Will the Ivy League universities look at me in a positive or negative light for using the percentages?
Which one do you think will sound better to universities?

Thanks a lot guys, all help is appreciated!

Top 6% among what? General population or a selective group of competitors?

I think gold medal sounds better if it’s a well-known competition, but if it’s not so well-known then you could use “top 6%” to alleviate any concerns that it might not be a proper competition.

Were there multiple gold medals? I perceive “Gold medal” as being better simply because I’m used to thinking that only one person is able to receive a gold medal.

Maybet something like Gold Medal (awarded to top 6%) in name of competition

Thanks a lot guys!

Actually, its top 6% amongst test takers (who are generally really good at maths) so how could I word it so that adcoms would be appreciate it without making me look pretentious?

Anyone else want to help me out? I will really appreciate it!
