rhetoric

what exactly do rhetoric classes teach? also, are rhetoric 10/20 representative of the major as a whole?

Ahhh I freakin' love Rhetoric! Are you currently taking 10/20? I'm taking 10.

I'm not totally sure what it teaches...I think it teaches you how to read, how to interpret, how to really understand text/images. It's a lot more philosophical than I had thought. rhetoric.berkeley.edu

Rhetoric at Cal is described as interdisciplinary, and thus rhetoric 10 and 20, depending on the professor, does not entirely do justice to the major and does not completely represent the major.

I took rhetoric 20 last semester (with Prof. Kaja Silverman) and I'm now taking rhetoric 10 with Prof. Coffeen.

According to Prof. Coffeen, rhetoric is the art of tending to the world on a fly and asking the question: how do things go? Instead of "what is truth" which a philosopher, he says, might ask.

As sweetdreams said, check out http://rhetoric.berkeley.edu; it'll provide more info.

And I recommend both Kaja and Prof. Coffeen

yep yep. . .
