Could anyone provide some details about the Computer Engineering program at RHIT? I have been accepted at two schools (RHIT is one) and waiting on several others. I like the undergraduate focus of RH, but am also interested in research and coop opportunities. How are the computer engineering facilities? How active is Ventures? How difficult is it to get into the Ventures program? I'll be visiting RHIT later this month. Anything specifically I should see when I'm there that would best help me judge the Comp Eng program?

bump? reply - - - - please

Hi Steve26 - good questions. I’m a senior EE major, although I’m a software-guy so I might be better characterized along the CompE track. I’ve addressed some of your questions before in other threads, so see my responses about facilities, and Why Rose-Hulman?/url.

Ventures is very active, and I know a lot of people that work there. I worked there doing software for one quarter when I had a light course schedule. Getting into Ventures is like getting a job - you put in your resume, and if they like you they have you come in for an interview. It’s treated like an internship - with a very convenient location. I applied my sophomore year with a good GPA and good extracurricular software development experience, and I got a position. It’s like any other internship - if you have decent grades and some skills that they can use, you have a good shot.

I don’t know what kind of things admissions will show you on tours and during your stay, and the neat labs and projects that I know about you can’t see without access to specific facilities. Depending on what your interests are, I might be working on some things that you would find interesting. At the least, I could show you what kind of projects you might work on. I’ll PM you…

(This goes for anyone else reading this who may be doing a campus visit to Rose - PM me. Especially if you’re looking at Electrical or Computer Engineering…I can show you some of the projects that I work on and talk about the program in more detail than a generic tour can.)

One thing that might be helpful is if you can request to meet with a professor in the ECE department (the admissions office should be able to arrange that if you ask). The professors are very friendly and could give you some more details about the program and studying CompE at Rose.

gobeavs, thanks for your message. This is great and would love to meet you on my visit. I got your pm but wasn’t able to respond because I haven’t made 10 posts on the system yet. I’ll work on that and then answer you.

Hello gobeavs,

I sent you a PM last nite regarding RHIT. I would appreciate if you could kindly send me a PM reply. Thanks.
