Rhodes vs Furman

I was accepted to both

both southern schools

i got into Furman with a 12,500 merit aid
and Rhodes with 7k merit

is it possible that I could get Rhodes to match/close in on the offer from Furman???

which school is better for business?

i dont know which one to pick..

You can certainly share your Furman package with the Rhodes financial aid office to see if they’d be willing to do better. I know if nothing else they’d appreciate knowing what some competitive offers are.

If you haven’t visited both campuses, that’s really important. Definitely make the time to come see us at Rhodes.

Both schools will be great for Business. I think Rhodes has the edge due to its location in Memphis and ties with the Fortune 500s headquartered here - FedEx, AutoZone, International Paper. There’s also an MS in Accounting here, so if you decide to sit for your CPA, you won’t have to leave Rhodes to get the extra credits you’ll need. The MBA acceptance rate is typically between 95-100% depending on the year.

Good luck, hope to see you in the fall!

Shoot me a PM if you want any and all details about the Rhodes business curriculum.

I don’t know much about Furman, but I’m with lynxinsider on this one. Memphis is the 20th largest city in the country so we have a lot or resources for business majors (any major, actually). When it comes to applying for grad schools and jobs, internships make the difference between a business major who didn’t know what else to major in, and one who is serious about their major, so having nine Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Memphis is a huge boon. Rhodes has a great working relationship with many of the businesses and non-profits in the area, so getting an internship is pretty easy regardless of your major. We’ve even had students doing internships abroad in Paris and Tokyo with FedEx. See a list of establish internships for business majors here: [Rhodes College | Internship Listings by Discipline](http://www.rhodes.edu/careerservices/8936.asp#COMMERCE_AND_BUSINESS). And keep in mind that these are only established ones. Career Services is happy to work with a student to develop a relationship with a new business in an area you’re interested in.

The Business & Econ Department is splitting next year into separate Business and Economics departments. This kind of focus on business is rather unique for a small liberal arts college like Rhodes. It means that you can focus on business, get hands-on experience, but still have a liberal arts experience. It’s a great blend, in my opinion.
