Just thought I’d give this thread a bump. Is there anyone else who has applied for RHP?

I’m applying to USC through Questbridge. I ranked it but didn’t get matched. :frowning: Do anybody know how hard USC look at test scores? My highest SAT score is 1590, and my highest ACT is 24. My GPA is very good, its 4.35. Does USC do that little balancing function like other schools?

I would assume they would look at test scores pretty harshly from what I’ve seen (I’ve read that the average SAT score is 2300 or around there). But I don’t think it is all about test scores. If you have some good extracurriculars that’s good too.

@Curious,

Schools do look at scores, but weighted with other factors. If your ACT, for instance is a 24, but your GPA is 4.35 out of 5, the next thing they consider is how academically rigorous your school is. Afterwards, they also look at things such as location (for geographic diversity), extracurriculars, etc. The hardest part of any admissions process is understanding that the odds are low for everyone at competitive schools. For instance, USC gets 40,000+ applications. So it might not be your scores, it might simply be they are looking for certain attributes to round out the incoming class and don’t have enough space to give everyone a spot.

It happens. Don’t try to second guess the process.

Thanks for the feedback @ExieMITAlum!

@Curious, did not mean to post anything misleading. Thanks ExieMITAlum for the info!

Just wondering, how does USC look at the PSAT? Does it affect admission or is it just for a scholarship?

Has anyone who applied to the Resident Honors Program received a notice for an interview yet?

I got in! No RHP specific acceptance has been sent yet but I got a really thick acceptance packet for undergrads going to USC 2013-2014

Congratulations! Did they interview you at all? Did it mention any scholarships in the packet?

No interview info has been sent yet, but they do send scholarship candidacy information along with the acceptance packet

Hi! I’m applying this year too. I got an email in January saying that I wasn’t being considered for scholarships and haven’t gotten anything since… do RHP students still get acceptances during the month of March or is it just rejects from here on out?

People get accepted in March but it’s strange they haven’t asked for an interview. Has anybody who applied to RHP gotten interviews?

Oh, I interviewed in early December.

I haven’t been contacted for an interview. Cj1396, did you arrange for an interview on campus or were you called?

I arranged for an on campus interview

Hi! I applied as well, but after receiving a notice that I would not be getting any scholarships in January, I have not received any information. I did not interview either. I assumed that was because I wasn’t getting a full ride though. I read around that they send acceptance packets around March and that rejections get mailed the first week of April.
Good luck to everyone!

^A note about RHP scholarships: if accepted, all accepted RHP students receive the Dean’s scholarship, worth approximately $11,000/year even if you received the “no scholarship” letter earlier this year. If your PSAT score qualifies you as a National Merit Scholar NEXT year, you will be awarded the USC NMS Presidential 1/2 tuition (~$22,000) scholarship starting your sophomore year. If you do qualify for the NMS Presidential, it will replace your Dean’s scholarship rather than being stacked with it.

Of course, RHP students are eligible for need-based USC financial aid, so be sure you have submitted the FAFSA, CSS Profile and any required documents.

Good luck!!!

The RHP application said that interviews were required, but so far I haven’t heard of anyone who’s not in the running for the big scholarships being interviewed for the regular RHP part. Correct me if I’m wrong.
