I've been looking into Rice and it seems like my dream school. However, I am uncertain as to whether or not I am sufficiently qualified to be accepted into such a prestigious university as Rice.

My GPA: 3.4 (freshman 3.2, sophomore 3.5, junior 3.8)........ :(
My SAT: N/A (did not take it yet, but will be about around 2150-2250 with a higher writing score and a slightly lower math score, relatively)

EC's: Student Council President (for senior year), Student Council Executive Board Videographer (junior year), Class Council President (sophomore year), Class Council Treasurer (freshman year), Freshman Soccer, JV Soccer (sophomore year), National Honor Society, Symphonic Band 1st chair (3 years), staffer for school newspaper

note: I currently live in New Jersey, multi racial (half pakistani, half filipino), and upper middle class

I would say Rice is a reach for you. gpa and class rank is very important in Rice’s admission. but don’t give up, you have a upward trend in gpa which is to your benefit. If you can pull your gpa up and get above a 2150 you still have a shot.

Yes, it will be a reach. Have you ever considered trying the ACT? Your GPA is quite low for Rice, but with a high enough ACT score, you’ll have a good chance. :)

What major are you thinking about? Because, that can affect your chances to some extent. For example, I am a musi, and so after Shepherd School of Music accepted me Rice waved my grades which was great cause I’m in the second quarter
). I think this applies to architecture majors as well.

Your intended major will only affect your admission to Rice if you are planning to pursue music or architecture. For all other programs, you are admitted to the university rather than the specific school.
