If I have a friend whose sister goes to Rice, would it be alright if I write her a note saying I would like her to interview me? (she used to work at the admissions office)

But then again I'm only a sophomore..

Sorry, thinking too much ahead. And another thing-how is Rice when it comes to Asian studies?

i dont think you're allowed to choose...besides, when you're a senior, she has to be a senior...cuz only seniors do on campus interviews, but if you're doing an off campus interview, you get to pick your interviewer. but im not sure you're allowed to interview with someone you know...

interviews are only optional..they won't kill you if you dont have one. but if you have a good one, it couldn't help. in short, they can only help you...so they say ;)

well that's good to hear, because I don't think mine went well. The guy was an engineer major (he was older) and I want to do economics, so he sort of didn't like that. He also didn't understand IB at all and kept asking why I did not AP classes or tests. Yea...i got owned.

Yeah, my interview sucked too. The guy was an Electrical Engineering major years and years and years ago at Rice, and kept on and on about bike gears for a solid half an hour. Then, he got all huffy that I wasn't talking about myself even though he wouldn't let me get a word in while he was giving his lengthy lecture about bike gears.

yeah, my interview started out horribly. I came in and we talked for a second. He stopped and asked "Are you sure Rice is for you? I mean Podunk University is right here?" He thought I was some really dumb blonde and even told me that the second half of my interview saved me from him putting that I was vapid and shallow. Oh well, at least I won him over in the end

First of all, interviews usually contact you; not vice versa. It would be weird if everyone wanted the same man/woman because they were nice. It would be too unfair to those who felt their interview went bad because tehy didn't get the interview of their choice. So I highly doubt you could influence thsoe selections. Furthermore, interviewers have to make sure there isn't a "Conflict of Interest" as they start their interview. They have to make sure they know little to none of their interviewee's history (An exception would be someone who is published in a newspaper and the interviewer happened to read the story, as well as, interview you. But, this is rarely the case). In doing so, schools try to make the interview playing field alot more even. If there was no ideal of CoI, then when people with legacy sign up for alumni interviews, they would automatically get their parents. And honestly, how many parents would really bad-mouth their own child? So, I seriously doubt you can request or ask for an interview, nor could you get your friend's sister.

Plus, don't worry about interviews. If you are Rice material, you'll be fine... It's not worth much. ;]

I got a list of interviewers on the rice website and contacted them. They didn't contact me until I had first emailed them. I picked a bad person for me, but it ended up ok!
