Rice and Money!!

I know that Rice's tuition is low compared to other universities. Does Rice offer full rides?!Because my EFC is very very low and thats a bad thing since very few unis can give full rides. Is Rice one of them(give full rides)?!Or at least very generous aid with work, but no loans?!

rice, like most universities, does offer full scholarships, but these are very hard to obtain, because they are very limited. And yes, they do have a great work study program.

Go to Rice's website and search for scholarships/merit aid. I don't remember everything off the top of my head but that will explain it.

But Rice does give merit based aid unlike some other universities of its caliber. For Questbridge they give a full ride, but that is something you would have had to apply for separately. I think in rare cases they do give full merit based scholarships, but check their website.

no, there are a few merit based full scholarships..and a few half scholarships.....

There are merit-based scholarships, but they will also meet your full-need - so everything up to your EFC will be met with grants, workstudy, and maybe some loans. Their loan limits are very reasonable. Just wait and see what your FA package is... no amount of speculating here will tell you what YOU are going to be offered. :)

If your parents make under 30,000 Rice covers everything right? So if your parents make under that than you should get a full ride.

You wouldn't get a full ride. You would get some good grant money, but you would still have a lot of work study to do and they would expect you to take out some loans. Your full need would be covered, but it's not all just money they give straight to you.

Well according to the statement in the application packet they do not want you to take out any loans. And the estimate I received from the CSS profile was full ride in grants and than 500 in work study. But than again that is only an estimate so.................

You got (or will get) a very good package then. Usually the full ride stuff is more for merit aid, not general financial aid.

Yeah I still don't really get the whole financial aid thing. I understood the actual college application but now that I'm in and have to start thinking about how to pay for it I feel as though I am lost in this huge sea of vocabulary and tax forms.

Yea I had the same feelings back then.

Thanks guys for your input!

I definitly wont mind work. In fact, I would like to work. But loans, unless they are interest free and less than 10k, I dont think so.

Pilebay is right.

"For families with less than $30,000 in total income, we meet all need with grants and work study - no loans."
