If you're planning on majoring in bioengineering, would it be ideal to take the biology subject test? Is there anyone who was admitted in bioengineering who didn't take the bio subject test?

You do not apply specifically for bioengineering, so it won’t matter which 2 SAT IIs that you take (although IIRC, you need to take Math). If you are confident you can do well with Bio, then take that one (not the environmental one).

Do you apply for engineering in general? If so, then would it be best to take the Physics subject test? Right now I’m just betting on Lit and Math II.

You apply specifically just to Rice (except music and architecture). Yes, you will indicate your “intended” interests, but you are not applying to the engineering school.

A math and a science would be your best bet, but if you do well on the Lit, I’m sure it won’t hurt you.

You can apply as a Gender Studies major and change to engineering during O-Week just by choosing Engineering classes.

My D got a letter from Rice on application fee waiver because of her outstanding performance on the SAT subject test. She took Math II(800) and Spanish(760). Although she plans to take additional subject test on Biology/Chemistry in December, is it better for her to send the current Math II/Spanish to Rice application, not risking uncertainty of the December test?

^ yes

but have the additional SAT scores sent to Rice as well

But if her Biology/Chemistry scores are low in December, it may hurt her admission. Should she take the risk with automatic sending the December SAT II scores to Rice ?

I don’t believe there will be any harm, really. Admissions is not looking for a reason to penalize applicants, they are looking for reasons to accept them.

Her SAT II scores that she currently has are plenty good enough, and if those scores are higher than her science scores, then Rice (and other schools) won’t “see” (care) the lower scores (unless of course she applies to a school that requires a science SAT II.

Bio is “easy”, Chem is not.

Good to hear that the university is looking for reasons to accept them. Thanks.

@crazymoster. Can you confirm that you can use ACT in lieu of subject matters at Rice even if you are majoring in engineering?

^ the only way I could confirm that is by checking the Rice admissions website.

Your intended major (outside of architecture/music) does not change the requirements.

I took the Bio M subject test, and I have to say it’s really not that bad. I got a 760. I am sure you can do better! I am also taking math 2, but I feel math is important, so take that! :)
