Rice Architecture vs University of Texas at Austin Architecture

Hi all,
I've been accepted into both the Rice University and the UT Austin architectural schools. Does anyone have any thoughts on comparing the two different programs?

Congratulations, those are both very selective schools. They are similar in some ways; they tend to produce thoughtful rather than flashy work, and the students at both schools are extremely bright. However Rice accepts maybe 25 students and UT accepts about 80. The plus side for Rice is that it is a very tight knit group with a lot of interaction with faculty and a lot of resources spread among the few students. Their 5th year preceptorship program is one of the best in the country and places students in some of the best known firms in the world. The down side is that with some variation you will be taking studio classes with pretty much the same folks for five years, and will be exposed to a much smaller circle of students and faculty. Rice students definitely fit into the geeky stereotype, and it is not much of a party school. It also happens to be located in Houston.

If you want the big school experience it’s hard to beat UT. Great campus, great city, huge party school (you may see this as a plus or minus). It has a wider variety of faculty members than Rice, and among them are some really outstanding professors. I think quality wise it’s a tossup, you just need to decide what scale of school and program you feel most comfortable with.
