How competitive is it to get into the Rice architecture program? Do I stand a chance with these stats?

2160 SAT - 770CR, 640M, 750W
740 US history, 640 chemistry, 600 math II (retaking this)
3.9 UW GPA
APs - World (4), Euro (5), Chem (3), Lang (4), US (5), taking 6 APs senior year
top 5% at small private school
white male from Florida

My portfolio should turn out well, I have about half of the 20 pieces I've planned done.

My son also interested in Rice architecture school. From their site, it says they only accept 25 freshmen per year, so yeah, I’d say it’s pretty difficult. Your test scores, GPA and AP classes very similar to my son’s. I guess one advantage is living far from Texas (we are in Minnesota) so that may help. Try to visit campus and interview - we have family in Houston and have toured the campus. Arch. school is not yet setting up interviews for Sept-Oct. (I called them this week), but will soon. Putting a face to a name and an app. may help your cause as I hope it does for my son, Good Luck!

My son is a current architecture major at Rice and was accepted with similar statistics. He did have a very strong portfolio, though. (He attended an arts magnet high school, participated in intensive art programs every summer, won many awards for his art and was offered several art scholarships.)

He absolutely loves Rice and we feel he is getting a top-notch education. Best of luck to both of you!
