Rice/Baylor 2009!!

Well, I haven't heard anything yet, and I got in early admission.

Has anyone else heard anything?

i'm thinking it'll come early next week (maybe even tomorrow). The increase in applicants and the elimination of interim decision probably factored into this later release date of interview notification. It really does need to be soon though because otherwise I don't understand how they can expect people to fly from other states to texas on such short notice

Yeah, there's nothing we can do but hope it comes soon. Can you imagine someone calling up Rice and saying "Would you hurry it up please?"

I got into Rice!
Now just waiting on Rice/Baylor...
=/

Just got the mail for Rice :) congrats everybody

ahhtimmy, I remember you from the SAT discussions ( I got above a 2300 and I remember you got something high also) and that's awesome that your going to Rice. I don't post on CC much (I'm not too into this stuff :) ) but you seem to be a smart guy and hopefully we'll meet up/ hangout during O week at Rice.

Go Rice!

I just got the Rice/Baylor interview email!

Thursday April 9th...is this after the conclusion of Owl Days?

=)

college316 -- can you share your stats?

has anyone else gotten a Rice/Baylor email (Interview or Rejection) other than college316?

ok I will make this specific to Rice/Baylor....

SAT: 2380 (800 V, 800 W, 780 M)
ACT: 34
SAT II: 780 Math I, 770 US History
APs: AP Human Geo-5, AP Lang-5, AP US History-5, AP Chem-4
Senior Year Courses: AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP Enviro, AP US G'vt, self-studying AP French

Career plans: I want to be a pediatrician, possibly specializing in Epidemiology or Infectious Disease. Maybe setting health policy somewhere in there too (CDC? NIH?)
Experience: For the past 2.5 yrs, I've shadowed my local pediatrician. She lets me see patients, try to predict diagnoses, and teaches me medical stuff (how to ID ear infections, strep throat, how to read an EKG, etc.)
Research: I spent a month the summer before senior year doing a research study on the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. I designed an experiment with the study's co-author (another student) and did an actual study with 15 Parkinson's patients and 15 control patients. I wrote up the study and submitted it to a neurology journal...I would've done a study involving pediatrics but I live in basically a retirement town and there are no specialist pediatricians...the only opportunity was an hour away!

Thanks college316 and good luck.

I just got my rejection from Baylor.
The letter said that there were over 1300 applicants who applied for the program. 287 were selected into Rice. 47 are being called for interview for 14 slots.
I am still happing that I got into Rice. Really liked it.....

Yeah I'm pretty nervous about the interview because of the intense competition.

I live in a town where the median age is literally 65 (Florida) and it's kind of a sleepy rural area so there aren't many opportunities like there are in big cities with huge medical complexes (HOUSTON).

But I'm strongly considering Rice regardless of the Rice-Baylor outcome, and I sincerely wish all of you the best...I am excited to hopefully meet some of you at Owl Days/the Rice-Baylor interview and maybe even enrolled in Rice 2013!

Lots of medical opportunities even if you are not in Rice-Baylor program, since HUGE med center is just across the street. Lots of Rice kids who are not Rice-Baylor go on to med school successfully.

has anyone not gotten an email yet? I have friends that applied Rice/Baylor like me, but both of them were greeted with sad news. Just wondering what is going on because I'm still waiting to get any kind of email or notification of whether I got an interview or not. Oh, and good job college316, seems like you deserve it!

I got an email. It had an attached letter that said I was not chosen as a finalist for the interviews. :(

hinthint: The e-mail ended up in my Spam folder, so you may want to check there.

Wow, I feel lucky now that I got that email for an interview too. Mine is on April 9, I wonder if everyone else's is on that day too. Well good luck to everyone!

do they expect us to pay for our own transportation to the interview? i feel incredibly grateful for this opportunity to interview, and i'm sure it would be a really useful experience for the future, whether or not it works out.

but i'm also thinking there's a good chance i won't be able to go to rice to begin with given the somewhat insufficient FA package they gave my family, so is it really worth me spending $100+ on a plane ticket to houston just "to see" if i could get in to the program or not?
