Does anyone know how this program compares to other ba/md programs such as the one at USC? I'm wondering whether I should apply or not.

Definitely apply.
I don't know anything about the USC program in particular, but Rice/Baylor is great. No MCAT, non-binding, top-10 med school, cheapest private med school in the US, only need to maintain a 3.2 GPA overall, and a 3.0 in your pre-med classes. It's an awesome deal.

this program is the best of the best. Crazy stats are the bare minimum. You must be super well rounded- good at everything

The Rice/Baylor program is nearly hopelessly difficult to get into. Several students from my school who were well-rounded, qualified applicants (think research publications, 2350+, 3 or 4 800's on SAT II's, hospital volunteers, blood drive organizers, top 1 or 2%, newspaper editors, etc.) gained admission to Rice with merit scholarships (and other notable schools like Yale and Stanford) last year but were denied from the Baylor program.

Sheesh, I mean, what more do they want? Maybe they just hate my school. lol

I don't know much about the USC program, though. However, there was one student from my school who got into the USC Med program, and she was a very qualified applicant.

Apply if you LOVE BCM. Otherwise, they'll see through it. A Dr. at BCM told me that. Don't do it for the program...it's not just another BA/MD school.

ill apply BCM 4 years later- if i can get in

do you have to apply to this when you send the rice application?
or are you able to apply to this after you receive admission to the school?

you can only apply to the program after getting accepted to Rice ED or ID
for the people who have recieved this year's Rice/Baylor app: are we supposed to write our responses to those essays by hand?
does Rice forward the essays we wrote for them to Baylor?
i hope not because two of mine directly respond to two of the questions

From another thread
"I'm not sure why this would be a problem...they said BCM only recieves letters of recs, transcripts, SAT scores, and your activities sheet..."

Rice/Baylor is not comparable to other programs. It is several orders of magnitude beyond, and the distance is growing. A little investigation of what is happening with Rice and the TMC will give you a hint.

You can still get into Baylor COM even if you aren't in the Rice/Baylor program. The Rice/Baylor program just means that you don't have to apply...

Just an FYI, taking the MCAT is a requirement if you plan on applying for scholarships at BCM or any other medical school.

does anyone know what the essay questions are?

...they're on the app...

Let me make something clear. If you're even deliberating whether or not to apply; this program is NOT for you. This is COMMITMENT, passion, love, etc. You can go into medicine the regular way at any poin tin time. Don't bind yourself to something that you may find out you don't love. My ex did so, and now she's pretty dang screwed.

Just because you get in doesn't mean that you're obligated to attend medical school.

To those who said I shouldn't apply because I'm not sure if I will go into medicine, that's not why I'm asking for your input here. I am however, trying to decide between whether I should apply to Rice's Ba/Md program or just hope to be accepted at USC's.

I simply meant. BCM isn't for everyone. It's an intense place. You need to love it fully. Stick with USC if that's more your thing. The two schools have very different approaches. Don't choose only by name either. You may be miserable at x school in four years. Consider everything equally. In terms of an easier undergrad life, I'm not discreding USC in anyway, but I am saying that Rice caters ONLY to the cream of the crop, while USC is a mixture of bright individuals.

This program is non-binding. Apply if you want, but only apply because you want to.

jenskate1,

Do you have BCM residency match result? I could not find it.
