Im interested in Biomedical engineering. I know at Rice it is called bioengineering. So when I began filling out part 1 of the app it said Considering Rice/Baylor? So I looked at it again and saw it said biomedical research among with medicine. SO the question I have is:

Is R/B suppose to be for future doctors and physicians or can people apply who are interested in biomedical research apply?

If yes then is graduate program at Baylor Medicine still 4 years or is it less if not entering medical school.

Well, I don't know how long the grad program is... But R/B is definately for people looking at biomedical reserach. Baylor has a PhD/MD program (also called a Medical Scientist Training Program). You can look on their website and see the kinds of research they do to see if they have what you're specifically interested in...

I think R/B is for people who want to be future doctors.

It's a program where you do your undergrad at Rice and then get your MD at Baylor Med. I havnt read anywhere that Rice/Baylor is also for people wanting to get a PhD. I could be wrong though.

There's a PhD/MD program at Baylor... It's not just a PhD, it's a combined program.

However I guess I'm not absolutely positive that the R/B applies for this program, although I don't see why it wouldn't. All it does is gurantee you acceptance to Baylor College of Medicine, so it makes sense that you could follow whatever degree path you wanted within BCM.

A reasonable amount of incorrect info is on this thread.

Here you go:

Rice/Baylor guarantees acceptance into the medical program (read: become a doctor) at Baylor College of Medicine.

BCM also has an MD/PhD program. This program obviously enables you to get your MD AND a PhD. It generally takes 5 years, instead of 4. The Rice/Baylor program DOES NOT give you acceptance into the MD/PhD program. If you want to do an MD/PhD, you would need to apply for that separately during your 2nd semester of Junior year/ first semester of senior year at Rice.

However, if you only want to do research, it might really not be necessary to have the MD, so you should consider just PhD programs. I don't know if Baylor offers that, though I know Rice does. However, Rice/Baylor would not grant you entry into that.

Finally, people with MDs, who don't have PhDs often do research. It just kind of depends what you want to do.

im just going to check off that I am interested right now because i am not commiting myself to applying. It just came up as I was filing out the app.

Of course if anyone knows for sure that would really be appreciated.
