Rice chances

Hey guys, I'm a half Hispanic male living around Houston.
I am planning to apply ED to rice, and RD to UT Austin, TAMU, Texas Tech University, and University of Houston.
I'd really love to go to Rice because I love the atmosphere of the area, especially given its proximity to a really nice museum. I'm not sure if I have a very good shot though, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

School Related

GPA: 102.9/100, weighted. Unsure of unweighted; probably around 98-99.
Rank: Top 9%
SAT: 2140 (planning to retake, hopefully I will have a superscore of at least 2200)
SAT IIs: Math II (740) US History (770)
APs: Psych(5), US History(5), English Lang(4), Computer Science(5)

Currently taking:
- Government AP (1 semester)
- Calculus BC AP
- Physics C AP
- Speech (1 semester)
- Gym (1 semester)
- Macroeconomics AP (1 semester)
- English Lit & Comp
- Planning to self-study AP statistics, though I don't think I'll include that anywhere.

Extracurriculars
- Boy Scouts - been in it since I was 11. Working on my Eagle rank, should be done early next year.

UIL [academic competition league] Computer Science Team - I'm the captain. We got 2nd place in a regional UIL competition. Sophomore/Junior/Senior year.

National Honor Society member (senior)

Spanish National Honor Society member (sophomore-junior)

Mu Alpha Theta Member (sophomore-senior)

etc
- I've volunteered about 60 recorded hours between my junior year and senior year with an organization that I've been active with since I was about 8 years old. I've helped raise orphaned kittens for them for years.

During Junior year, I held a paid position at an animal clinic walking dogs and cleaning their cages (along with cats, also)

Commended on NMSQT

I was in my school's English department's "Hall of Fame" in the 9th and 10th grade.

I am planning on majoring in computer science. I have developed somewhat interesting applications on my own (currently working on a card game that can be played with other people online), however I'm not sure how to include stuff like that.

I know my ECs are pretty weak, but I didn't really have a way to get to all of the after school meetings for the other clubs, so I was pretty limited to the clubs that offered meetings before and after school. I'm driving now so I'm trying to get active in more clubs/activities, but I suppose it's too little too late :P

Bump - any opinions appreciated

Pad your EC’s-definitely. Your scores definitely suggest you have a fair chance (along with that ever-important diversity). Also, if you can, get some sort of internship related to the field you’re interested in studying (that’d make you EXTREMELY competitive) Good luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1393753-chances-top-schools-especially-rice.html</a> ~chance me, perhaps?~ Thank you!

Definitely boost your EC’s, but your scores are pretty good–boost those if you can, though. Any National Hispanic Recognition status? That’d help even more given your URM status.

Thanks! I posted in both of your threads to the best of my ability.

Your stats are excellent, and although you dont have a lot of extracurriculars, obviously the ones that you do have show a huge amount of dedication. The sheer fact that you’re about to become an eagle scout, is incredibly impressive. I would talk about your computer science interests in your essays

Bumping again - does the fact that I only got a 670 on the math portion of the SAT hurt me a bunch (given that I’m applying to the engineering college)?
I really do feel like I’m good at math, but I completely choked on the test :
I took it again and I think I did better, maybe around a 700-720 (should have been more careful… made a couple stupid errors)
