*Rice Class of 2016 ED Results*

Thanks LastShadow. I forgot to mention that before. Also, the place you will see for sure that you were accepted is on the esther site (esther.rice.edu). You click Undergraduate Admission, scroll to the bottom and click Requirements, and there will be a place where it says Application Status. Beside that it says “Application Under Review” until approximately 5 pm cst. If you are accepted it changes to “Admit”. Then if you go back to the main menu, you will see an option that wasn’t available before that says “Undergraduate Admission Notification” and you can accept the offer, fill out some info about what influenced your decision to choose Rice, and can pay your Deposit fee.

Just thought some people might be curious. I know I was (:

Also, how did everyone find out about their financial aid info? Is it just in the letter or is it somewhere on the site and I’ve just missed it?

RiceHopeful, if you go to ESTHER, there should be a tab where it says ‘Financial Aid’ right next to ‘Undergraduate Admission’. At the bottom of that page, there’s a link entitled ‘Award Status’, then go to ‘Award For Aid Year’, and it should be on there. Hahaha, it’s just the tiniest bit complicated.

Would any merit scholarships show up in financial aid or are they determined at a later date?

Thanks LastShadow. I just asked you on a different thread lol. And I went there already and it just says “No award information is available for you at this time, please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have questions.” Did you submit your deposit before finding out? And did you choose 2012-2013?

We had submitted our tax returns and CSS profile but for some reason our tax return wasn’t received or put with the student record. I would call and check if everything was in order. After resubmitting, we had info within an hour on ESTHER of financial aid. Office is open all next week 8-5. Income must be too high as we basically didn’t receive anything.

Reflections:

[ul]

[] Strengths: Slew of extracurricular activities/community service completely driven towards my interests, strong essays, LOTS OF INTEREST (I emailed back and forth with Rice all summer)
[] Weaknesses: Low SAT/ACT scores, low AP scores, the worst interview of my entire life? lol
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Unique essays that showed my quirky, idiosyncratic personality… and a lot of luck. I also go to a school where not a lot of students are involved in outside stuff, and I really went out of my way to find literally every single opportunity to learn and grow.
[] The most unique thing in your application: For my supplement essay, I wrote about my fear of microwaves. Yep.[/ul]

Rice has been my dream school since 10th grade, and I have been stalking CC forums every year since then in anticipation of my own decision - and now it’s all coming together! Congrats to all those accepted!

Congrats to all the new Owls - I’m looking forward to meeting you in the fall! Until then, enjoy the rest of your senior year, and don’t succumb to senioritis too much (but don’t fight it off altogether, either - you’ve earned it!).

To those deferred, good luck in RD at Rice and wherever else you’re applying. If you have the time in the next two weeks, I’d suggest applying to a few more places - it can’t hurt!

To those rejected, my condolences. I know it’s rough, and it usually comes with a whole host of worries about not getting accepted to any of the other top schools, but don’t give up - you’ll find another school that fits you well. I’d recommend applying to a few more places, too. I was rejected from my ED choice, and it sucked at first, but I ended up applying to three schools I hadn’t really considered before - one of which was Rice Needless to say, I’m glad I did so, because I now prefer Rice to my original ED and am glad I was rejected. Getting rejected isn’t the end of the world - it happens, and loads of people who are rejected from their first choice still end up at a school they’re immensely happy with.

Has anyone got their letter in the mail yet?

[*] The most unique thing in your application: Portfolio

@RiceHopeful2012 - The admitted students packages usually take several days to arrive. Mine took over a week–I’m in the middle of the country, yet some people I know in New England got theirs before me haha. You’ll get it in due time.

To those who were accepted, congratulations! Welcome to Rice! We are all really eager to meet you in the fall. Get excited because it’s a fairly smooth ride into O-Week from here. If you guys have any questions about the logistics of things, like where to go from here, you can PM me if you’d like. I’d be more than happy to help. Can’t wait to meet some of you in August. (Especially if I get a position as an O-Week co-advisor, maybe one of you will be my freshman  . Wishful thinking.)

To those deferred, don’t give up hope! A deferral just means they want to have a closer look at your app compared to the rest of the applicant pool. It’s not a rejection by any means. Be sure to update Rice with anything that happens between now and March.

To those rejected, I’m really sorry to hear the bad news. Don’t stress though; you will definitely find a school you love. My dream school this time last year was Yale, and I was rejected. But now I couldn’t be any happier here at Rice. And I’m confident you’ll find a school like that too. Don’t give up hope on other schools, either. Just because Rice didn’t select you doesn’t mean a Vanderbilt or a Dartmouth won’t either. At this level, anything can happen. Just refine your app a bit and pick your head up, you’ll end up somewhere great. :)

I got the acceptance package in the mail today (Oklahoma). It included the letter of acceptance, letter with status of need-based aid, letter to be signed saying you have withdrawn your other acceptances, and some further financial aid info.
