Rice sent me an email on Sept 10 about sending login instructions for esther within 2 weeks, and they have yet to send them since then. Should I send an email to admissions asking for it, or does the email typically come later than 2 weeks?

I think it’s possible that since it’s still pretty early, esther still isn’t up yet. If that’s the case then maybe that was an automatic email that just gets sent out when they receive your application. I remember looking through old forums to try to figure out when people last year got their accounts, and I don’t think it’s time yet.

I am applying ED to Rice. Here are my basic stats.

Rice is my dream school - I can stay home and get a near-Ivy education. Hoping to go into Public Policy.

I also was the Honor Society President and was a part of the Math honor society.

I heard Rice mostly cares about academics.
My 35 ACT composite, 4.603W (3.97UW) GPA, 12/491 class rank, and 14 AP exams by graduation should probably make me an attractive applicant, not to mention my extracurriculars, leadership, volunteering, and awards. Oh, but i’m applying as RD.

Hey guys, I’m applying ED.
I’m scared. :(

adezar2, Rice cares about academics, but not to the point of argument over minor differences in SAT scores or GPA. Academics are the benchmark for your consideration; your unique personality and accomplishments are what get you admission. To those applying, please do not worry because your SAT score is a few points lower than the next guy. Focus on letting the admissions office why you would have a positive impact on the Rice academic and social environment.

I’m really nervous to send in my application in too. I have common app 90% done, and the main supplement essay done, but I want to wait to send it in.

I have a few questions for you guys though:
- When do people start getting Esther accounts?
- How do you know if all your stuff is in?
- Can I send ACT and SAT II, but not SAT I?
- When is the latest you can send in your scores? One of my subject test isn’t ready till Oct. 25th, what should I do?

1) I don’t have an exact time frame for ESTHER accounts. It’ll be at least a week or so after you submit your application, and perhaps not until after the deadline if you submit your app early. Don’t stress over it.
2) All materials are tracked via ESTHER. The Admission Office WILL notify you if they are missing anything…so don’t worry! They’ll give you a chance to get it to them once. If this is the case, you’ll get an email once they have completed application processing with the missing items and a due date.
3) Rice asks that you submit all test scores…so just do that. If you ACT reflects better on your abilities than your SAT, then the admission officer reading your application will see that. They’re not looking to penalize you.
4) You’ll be fine. Rice actually even accepts the November 3rd date for ED consideration (provided you indicate to send the scores to Rice when you take the exam). No need to rush your scores when you get them either. Only do that if the Admission Office asks you to. It won’t speed up processing around the deadline when you rush scores.

Wow, I just want my application to be in already. It’s stressing me out to still have my essays know that I can edit them. They’re all almost done, I just need to meet with my college counselor to get the green light to send everything in.

Is there anyone else who still hasn’t sent the common app or the supplement in for ED?

procrastinationatitsbest

Well damn I feel a bit unqualified lol.

I’m 1/75, latino from the bronx/ I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA, I’ve only taken 3 ap classes since my school has only offered 4, I have over 300 hours of community service I volunteered at a hospital over the summer, I volunteer daily for a family company and I also babysit. I take collge courses at a local CUNY college and I’ve passed all my AP exams with 4+. Member of a bunch of clubs and my SAT is 1700 but I’ve been taking practice tests but I need to really improve my math to break 2000.

How do you send the 2011 tax documents? Do I fill out and send the student non-tax filer statement along with my parent’s tax documents?

Having such a hard time writing the Rice Supplement …

^^^I struggled so much with it. Are you applying ED?
I’m done with the main one. I showed my shorter ones to my college counselor and he didn’t like them… So I’m changing that. Hopefully I’m submitting the Common App tonight and the supplement on sunday.

OK for the picture, can we type a caption for it?

We can’t just submit a JPG; we have to put it in a Word Document … so in the Word Document, would it be OK if I gave a sentence-long caption explaining the picture?

The picture I’ve chosen isn’t terribly hard to understand, but I feel that a sentence would greatly clarify it :).

IceQube: of course you can use words! Words are “a scannable image.”

Wow, just sent in the app… That’s a really big burden off of my shoulders to know that it’s already submitted. Thanks to Sandy coming I was forced to submit it today for fear of losing power over the next 2 days. Well, only 48 days left until Decision Day, or as I like to say, D-Day.

Also, has anyone who’s already submitted there app gotten an Esther account yet?

I’m debating what image I should show Rice.

I have one that’ll back up what I wrote about in my essay. If I use this image, it’ll be like a visual to accompany the wall of words that is my supplement essay.

I also have another one. This one is touching and sweet and rather intimate. But completely irrelevant regarding my supplement essay. I like this image better because it really showcases certain qualities of me. The other image is sort of redundant when taken in regard with my essay.

Which one should I use?

I would go with the one that isn’t redundant. In all honesty I don’t think the picture will affect you’re application at all, unless it’s something creepy like a dead body in which case they’ll think you’re really creepy as well. If you do something that lines up too much with your essays it could make you seem a little boring. Go for variety.

I’m applying as an undecided, but I have to choose an academic school, and explain why I chose that particular school and field on the Rice supplement.

Which school and field should I choose? I’m undecided about my major after all …
