Rice Class of 2017 ED/RD Discussion Thread

runallday4, I sent in my application yesterday and I have not yet received any email about an Esther account

What is Esther?

A lot of other schools have something similar to Esther, just it’s called something different. Emory has OPUS, Tulane has Gibson, etc. Eventually Rice will email you with your password and username and you’ll be able to log on and see what materials of yours they have. Also, you will get your admissions decision and financial aid info on there. Some colleges also have some other things, like I know Tulane has a bunch of videos on it. Also, if you get accepted you will use Esther for a lot of different things, including setting up your classes.

I applied already, but not ED. I did get the email for the Esther account.

The website says you will get an email regarding Esther within two weeks of submitting your application.

Applying ED. I submitted my Common App and Supplement today. The feelings of relief are beginning to sink in. I cannot wait to begin using ESTHER.

@jprtaco, how long after you submitted your application did you get your Esther? I’m hoping to get it before Nov 1 just so I can be sure I didn’t forget anything.

@runallday4, I love it–“D-Day.” Stay safe as Sandy moves in.

To everyone who just submitted your application:

Relax! Your part is done! Congrats on all your hard work so far. Please be patient with the Admission Office. They have a lot of incoming materials to process. It may take some time for ESTHER accounts to be created and for received materials to be marked as IN. I want to remind you that Rice will let you know if something is missing. If something doesn’t make it in, you will find out exactly what’s missing and when it needs to be resubmitted by. If you’ve sent in everything on the checklist, you’ve done your part.

Best of luck to all of you.

Is there any notice about ED extensions for Rice? My internet keeps getting disconnected :/

OK, for Rice ED apps, are the apps due ON November 1st, or BEFORE Nov. 1st?

I was very glad today to receive an email notifying me that Rice has received my application. Even better, hours later, I received my ESTHER login info! What I thought would take days and maybe even weeks took only a few hours. I’m excited!!

Good luck to everyone!

I think I received the Esther info about 5 days later. The wait will be very tough. Since I couldnt go ED, April 1 is a long way from here.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CC

FYI guys, the Ed deadline was extended to nov 5th at 11:59 pm (I think, check the admissions website).

Also, I lost power and school was cancelled. Thankfully I already sent everything in,otherwise I’d be in panic mode. Also, I got my ESTHER account yesterday (2 days after I sent in my
App). Good luck to anyone trying to finish everything up before the deadline.

Just submitted my ED application. Good luck everyone!

Out of curiosity, is anyone here planning on majoring in Computer Science?

I have computer science listed as “interest 3” on my Common App. 1 is linguistics, 2 is history, and 3 used to be biology. The day I submitted my app I decided to change it.

I’m so glad the deadline is changed! I still don’t have internet access and power so I wanted more time to edit my supplements. Sandy literally ruined the roads and power lines in Jersey.

Good luck to everyone EDing!

Does anyone have “not received” under HS transcript in Esther?
My counselor said she attached it to the common app, but it would appear not.

Mine says not received also, for all the stuff that my high school is responsible for. My counselor told me though that the only stuff that has to be in by the deadline is my stuff (he used to be a college admissions officer at a top liberal arts school, so I trust him). I wish they would get it in soon though.

Does it show up on common app right away if they already sent it in?

Mine only said not received for the transcript; everything else was there.
Anyway, I went ahead and sent in the transcript via mail just to be sure nothing happens.
