Rice Class of 2018 (HS Class of 2014) ED/RD Thread

@naruto
me and tempe are both rice/baylor applicants too!

@mwcgehee
Thanks for clearing things up. My only concern is that I have a discrepancy between my SAT and ACT scores… like they don’t match up because i took SAT 2.5 years ago and took ACT (highest score) like June… So my SAT score is less than my highest score and i know that Rice says that they only look at the highest, but if they do that, then why do they ask for ALL test scores? its kinda hard to “unlook” something once you see it. Logically speaking, it could atleast contribute to their human bias… im still stuck on whether i wanna send SAT in or not… im RD applicant so technically i have time before jan to decide but right now im leaning on not sending in SAT scores

@matrixsurgeon Definitely see where you’re coming from there! I think you will be fine either way. Just go with your gut.

You don’t have to send your poor and old SAT score.

How about SAT subject tests? I just noticed that ds sent only three of his four subject tests.

anybody know if rice uses demonstrated interest in their admissions? cause they like seem to value oncampus visits and oncmapus interviews…and i like like 10+ hours away haha

@matrixsurgeon I believe it is considered, but it isn’t a huge factor.

thanks JordanTS23…

My son still hasn’t received the Esther account information. Anyone else still waiting for it too ? Do you think we should wait or call Rice Admissions to check ?

Thanks for your reply.

Antarius - Would you happen to know when Rice ED decisions will be released? I’m guessing it will be next week Friday, 12/13 around 5 pm (CT). Thank you. :)

matrixsureon - as JordanTS23 said, it likely is one of the many factors that are looked at. That said, not visiting will not count against you.

shantivan - Calling them once won’t hurt. You can also send them an email.

That sounds about right. Not 100% sure though; a few years ago the mailed acceptances arrived on the 13th or so for several people.

Thank you! :)

So decision letters will be going out through snail mail?

I just received an email with instructions for my Rice portal account. I made it and found that all they received everything from me that they need. What concerns me is the dates that they have listed!!!

For application submitted, it says “december 2nd” even though I sent it 9pm EST on dec 1!!! this is concerning because rice/baylor wants everything submitted by dec 1, and i DID SEND EVERYTHING by dec 1 end…but the dates say 2nd and/or 3rd for all of them!! are the dates just the dates that THEY OPENED the stuff? im freaking out cause i love rice/baylor and don’t wanna be prevented from doing that. and also does “freshmen test scores” mean ACT/SAT scores OVERALL?

“are the dates just the dates that THEY OPENED the stuff?”

Yes, I submitted my stuff a certain day and everything on my student portal reads a day or two late like yours.

Got it. We got the Rice ID email yesterday. The application is complete… now eagerly looking to the Decision !!!

anyone know where the decisions are going to be posted? I thought I read Esther but I’m not sure where on there they would post it.

also apply rice’ early decision…

They will give you an email after they made their decision, or they may send you a mail.

I believe you get an email and a regular package in the mail. If this helps :D
