Rice Class of 2023 ED Discussion Thread

I only have one essay done, too… and my AP Lit teacher assigned us a paper that’s due on October 30th. RIP

Hang in there @awesomepolyglot. Keep your eyes on the prize. Try working on your Rice app for a set amount of time each day, even for half an hour, to give you a break from your high school academic obligations. You will probably enjoy working on the Rice app versus the other stuff. That way you can finish and polish it before Nov. 1. Rice will be looking at the grades you have gotten so far when they review your ED app. In the grand scheme the English paper is less important than a great Rice app.

They updated the class of 2022 statistics!! 371/1978 ED applicants accepted.

Here are the updated statistics for Class of 2022. https://admission.rice.edu/apply/freshman/admission-statistics. 18 percent ED acceptance rate versus 10.3 percent for Regular Decision.

does anyone know the average test scores of the individuals who got accepted through ED last year?

@Houston1021 Thank you!

@krisp13
I have never seen ED test score data, but here is an article that contains the information that Rice released after ED last year:

Can anyone tell me about what happens after I submit my Coalition application?

I understand that I will be directed to my new Rice Student Admission Portal account. How long does it take after I submit my Coalition application to gain access to the portal? What’s on the portal? Does it contain anything else I need to fill out before my application is “complete”? If so, does this mean I need to submit my coalition application a few days before November 1 so as to have enough time to fill out this extra information, or does the deadline only apply to the submission of the Coalition/Common application?

Also, am I able to add recommendations to my application after it is submitted?

Everything should be on your Coalition app for ED. Just make sure you’ve answered everything. I know last year on the Common app things popped up after certain questions were answered. My daughter had to add a few things after deadline last year due to the CSS profile being so slow processing for financial aid.

Rice does not release test score data for the ED only admits just for the class as a whole. Rice plays in Division 1, and the scholarship athletes are usually admitted ED.

It took me two hours to upload The Box… The PDF started out at 5800 KB. Super frustrating :frowning:

All of my recs are in!

Good Luck to all that have submitted an ED application to Rice. December 15 will be here soon.

I thought ED decisions came out mid-December? I might be wrong though.

I think Questbridge might come out Dec.1. Last year ED results came out at 4:00 Central Time on Thursday, Dec. 14.

QB 2018 match day is December 3. https://www.questbridge.org/high-school-students/national-college-match/dates-deadlines

My applicant portal says that the ED agreement isn’t turned in… but everybody turned it in on the common app. Anybody else having similar problems? I’m about to email the office of admissions…
I’m totally wiggin out y’all

Turns out there’s a substantial delay between when they receive documents and when the portal shows that they’ve been received… All good here! =))

I turned in my ED app yesterday around 9:00 PM, a few hours before the deadline. When I looked at the portal this morning, however, it says all my materials arrived to Rice today, November 2. Does this mean that I actually missed the deadline even though I submitted my materials on time?
