I submitted all of my stuff before 11:59. I submitted the Common App on 31 October and it showed up on my portal as received on 1 November. I wouldn’t be too concerned.
You should be fine.
Am enjoying going along on this ride with you, as we did way back in 2003. Happy outcome in Dec 2003, and DS, his wife and baby daughter are en route to his 10 year Rice reunion as we speak !
DS submitted his ED application on the 31st. Hoping for a favorable outcome
Have any of you done on-campus/off campus interviews ? Any suggestions about it?
@RUA my advice for the interview is just be prepared to have a conversation. They aren’t going to grill you, they want to know how you fit in at Rice. As some have stated before, bring a resume with you. Some will look at it, some will not. My daughter’s interviewer glanced at it and then gave it back. They WILL ask you if you have any questions about Rice. Ask some questions!!
Do you think that we should email them our resume if we are doing an off campus interview video call?
Nvm
How much info about us do our interviewers have access to?
They know your name, contact info, high school, and area of interest. That’s it. No info on grades, scores, extracurriculars. Edited to add that I have interviewed many prospective Rice students in the past as an alumni interviewer.
@krisp13
"How much should I tailor my responses towards RICE for the prompt “There is a breadth of intellectual opportunities here at Rice. Further explain your intended major and other areas of academic focus you may explore?”
I kind of went general and explained the experience that made me want to major in that subject.
I’d say what you did is fine. But make your experience as specific as possible. The admissions committee values descriptive experiences and anecdotes in the major/why Rice essays. I.e. If you started a club or something related to your intended area of study, this would make for a great essay. If you tackled an independent project or something like that, that would be great to write about as well. Cheers.
@reyzar … well I already submitted my application, so I can’t change much now. Thanks anyways!
What day are we supposed to find out, again?
@awesomepolyglot: According to the website: “Students who apply Early Decision (ED) will submit their application by Nov. 1 and will receive their admission and financial aid decisions in mid-December”. The online portal also says decisions can be viewed there, too, but it doesn’t specify a timeframe.
If Rice holds true to its past patterns, the decisions will likely come out in the late afternoon on Dec. 14 or possibly Dec.13.
Thank you!
Last year, decisions came out with no advance notice on Thursday, Dec 14. Everyone was expecting Friday, December 15 since notifications had gone out on Fridays for the previous five years (at least). It was actually fantastic to find out a day ahead of when we were expecting.
My bet for this year is Thursday, December 13. Good luck to everyone!
I kind of hope it’s on that Thursday, because then I can tell all of the people at school on Friday (LOL) and also so I can open my decision with my climbing team, who have been lovely and supportive through this whole process. (I got into UTK the other day and when I told the team I got into a college they all started yelling about how I “GOT INTO RICE???” And then I had to tell them that we still have to wait another month…)
Can anyone speak to whether the interviews are used to evaluate students in the ED admissions process or are they truly optional/providing information in nature? They are described as “optional” on the portal, and online, and my son is trying to coordinate schedules with the person assigned to him, but I was just wondering how truly optional they are. Thanks for any info!
My daughter’s high school counselor told her that she should treat “optional” as “required,” especially in a competitive pool of applicants. I know Rice values demonstrated interest, and an interview is a way to demonstrate interest and maybe stand out in the crowd of ED applicants.
Thanks @Houston1021 yes, I think we were assuming the same on that front too, thank you!
