Rice Class of 2024 Regular Decision

Please put all comments regarding Rice RD in this thread.

Good Luck to all that are submitting RD applications to Rice!

Any thoughts on when some RD might start rolling in?

They will all be released at the same time. Last year it was sometime at the end of March, maybe the 27th. There will be an announcement letting you know what day and time the results will be released.

As @PrdMomto1 says Rice does not have rolling admissions. All RD results are released at the same time usually at 5:00 p.m. on a weekday during the last week of March. Last year it was March 26. Look at page 13 and following for info about the release of RD from last year. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/2109973-rice-university-class-of-2023-rd-thread-p13.html

Bumping this thread

Applied to Rice RD. Looking forward to getting my results, though of course Rice is a reach for everyone.

Anyone receive a likely letter?

Not that I know of

I’ve posted this before but I haven’t even seen any posts about Vision, which served as a likely letter for URMs. I think they discontinued the program. Good luck to all!

Oops I didn’t know this thread existed!

Rice seems to be changing some things up this year. Rice admitted 440 students ED which is more than in past years. The ED admits include 55 Questbridge matches. In a change from past years, Rice is also opening Owl Day/Admit Day registration for ED and Questbridge admits now, which is well before the RD admissions will come out, probably in the last week of March. Rice has the SOAR program in the fall, so the admissions office may have scrapped VISION in favor of funneling everyone admitted into Owl Days/Admit Days. Admit Days are 4/6 and 4/20. Owl days are 4/16-4/17. https://admittedowls.rice.edu

Based on last year’s decision date, Rice should be releasing decisions on March 24th this year.

@Houston1021 do you believe the increase in ED means a decrease in RD? Or, do you think it’s just becoming less competitive?

My daughter (current student) told me yesterday they are “changing class sizes” and adding rooms to her college by eliminating some common areas and adding rooms. By doing this everyone who wanted to stay on campus for Fall 2020 will be able to, again at least in her college this is the case. Maybe this means higher enrollment?

@malibugirl Is your daughter in Sid or Hanszen?

Did anyone else just get an email from Rice Admissions? Subject line: Find your path to research.

It reads:
What could your four years at Rice University be? If you’re as enthusiastic about research as Grace Wickerson, it could mean diving into exciting opportunities in the lab. Arriving on campus as a Century Scholar, Grace immediately had the chance to learn the scientific method, start building relationships with professors, and explore an interest in polymer electronics. And a passion for social issues led Grace to a path for practicing science with a conscience.

Grace currently serves as the Student Association president and graduates this May as a materials science and nanoengineering major. Learn more about Grace’s experiences in and outside the research lab in our video.

[Then there is a link to a video]

It seems very generic, but why send stuff like this at this time? It just makes the waiting worse!

@Papa1977 I did. Which threw me off a bit because I almost applied to that major

yes!!

I got it!
