Rice Cooker...?

This is a bit awkward to ask but my mom heavily insists that I bring a rice cooker to Berkeley... and I was wondering what are your guys' thoughts on this? I'd like some opinions from veteran students. I'm also actually afraid this might not even be allowed?

How else are you going to carboload, man?

Hahaha my mom told me to bring a rice cooker too…

Asians make me laugh. I don’t know if it’s allowed, but nobody’s going to write you up for having a rice cooker. Take the rice cooker, make your mama happy, bring along with a nice box for it, put it on top of your closet, and take it back home in May.

If you have a kitchen yes. Bring it + if you can cook bring it. Other than that. don’t. i never used it.

The kitchen is so far away. in the units. who wants to walk down and walk back up with food. no thanks.

If you’re not already strapped on space, just bring it. All you need is a bag of rice (should last whole year) and water to make yourself some 2am rice. Also, the rice at the dining common is notoriously bad, so if rice is your staple you now have an alternative.

I was planning to bring a rice cooker too! :D

I live in an apartment and certainly have a rice cooker. It’s good stuff, and goes well with so many things – go for it! I didn’t have one when I was in the dorms though.

Seriously… you probaly won’t need one. One of you roommates will definitely have one. Case in point: I’m caucasian and even I brought a rice cooker! Save the space and leave it at home (unless your mom absolutely insists… then just store it in your closet). :)

That was one of my son’s favorite dorm items last year. (He is not Asian.) It comes in handy when you are sick of dorm food or you do not feel like going out late at night.

if ur living in the dorms, meh, u don’t really need one. but i’m definitely bringing one to to my apartment next sem. What else is an Asian guy supposed to eat?

I brought a rice cooker to the dorms. I used it once during the entire year. But now that I am out of the dorms, I use it frequently. While other people may be different, if you are questioning whether you will use a rice cooker, I doubt that you will.

You’re dorming right? Then you don’t really need it.

What else is an Asian guy supposed to eat? RAMEN/CUP NOODLES. Ate them for one week straight and threw up on the last day.

You’re better off with a hot water dispenser.

How about microwaves? My mom was wondering whether we could bring those to our dorms

there is rice available pretty much every lunch and dinner at Foothill. My guess is it is available at the other DCs too.

it’s highly likely that other people on ur floor will bring/rent a microwave. so unless u wanna that “guy who has a microwave” there’s no need to.

Go eat Thai food if you want rice, as well. If you’re used to eating rice, it’s a good idea to stick with that stuff. Plus, the Thai place on Northside is quite tasty in my opinion.

Of course, I mean, I still think having a way to make rice at home is good, though given I live in an apartment, I can make other stuff to go with it.

Batman – Ramen sounds horrible! Though, I suggest you try putting some effort into making some fresh stuff to go with it if you haven’t already. That’s what some of those who live with me do.

are there kitchens in the units?

Lupirius: From what I remember from CalSO, the units have one kitchen per building on the 1st floor.
