Here are the stats for this years ED applicant #s
[quote]
We've had a very successful Early Decision process this year. We had a strong pool of 1048 early decision applicants (up 9 percent from last year) and the Admission Committee offered admission to 298 of those students. Overall, our goal is to enroll 950 students in the class enrolling in fall 2011.

28% acceptance rate. Doing some quick math,

We have 652 spots remaining. Assuming 11,000 applicants (same as last year) and every person accepts the offer, the acceptance rate for RD is 6.52% The yield last year was about 37%. If we assume the yield remains the same, the overall RD acceptance rate will be 17.5%

This number is holding two things constant, which will likely increase this year. My guess would be that RD acceptance rate will be closer to 16.5% to 17%.

DISCLAIMER: Pure speculation. Numbers are for informational purposes only

Not sure about those numbers, antarius. I think the 11,172 application # from last year may have included both ED and RD applicants. They accepted 2495 and 894 enrolled (35.8% yield) So, if they get say 12,177 total applications this year (based on the 9% increase in ED applications so far) and they make, for example, a total of about 2600 offers (ED and RD) with a goal of a class of 950, and say 280 of the 298 ED’ers confirm (estimating 6% lost to inability to pay), they then make approx. 2302 more offers (2600 - the initial 298) for the remaining 670 spots from the remaining 11,129 additional applications (and we DK how many of the ED applicants were deferred to the RD pool vs those who were denied) overall acceptance (ED + RD) would be about 21.35% and yield about 36.5%, with a 20.7% acceptance from the RD group alone (2302 offers from 11,129 apps) if we don’t count the deferrals from ED that went into the RD group. Do these numbers make any sense? My head is spinning!

Rice sent out some preliminary info on ED to its alumni interviewers. The numbers I used in post #5 were based on last years applications/acceptances/enrollment from Rices website and USNWR, and played with estimates this year based on the ED pattern thus far.
